The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Josh B. Gibson Community Center, Rogers Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Kingsville Memorial Cemetery, Cusseta, Georgia.
Mother Crumbley was born August 2, 1922 in Chattahoochee County, Georgia to the late Jesse Williams, Sr. and Lula Parris. She was educated in the public school system of Chattahoochee County. She also acquired her Christian training in the local churches. At an early age, she joined the Kingsville Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Deaconess Board and Missionary Auxiliary Board. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Robert L. Crumbley, Sr. on November 1, 1947. To this union, fourteen children were born. Seven children preceded her in death, Mary Ann Crumbley, Pearlene Cottle, Marvin Crumbley, Willie Edward Crumbley, Leroy Crumbley and two babies. She was also preceded in death by twelve siblings, James Parris, Jim Parris, Robert Parris, Carrie Hollis, Mae Bell Chester, Dorothy Chester, Willie Parris, Willie Mae Sutton, Rosa Excell, Nathaniel Watts, Jesse Parris, Jr., and Clinton Williams. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Mattie Crumbley. During her husband pastoralship, she served dutifully on the pastor aid committee, Ministers Wives Auxilary Association and the choir. She also was the speaker on many of the church programs and served as a mentor to the young women and young men in the church. After her health began to decline she moved into the home of Rev. and Mrs. George Monts, Jr. who nurtured and cared for her until her demise. On January 2, 2005, she joined the Zion Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of her son-in-law and pastor, Rev. George Monts, Jr. She served on the Mother Board and supported every facet of the church she loved so well.
Mama Crumbley, as she was known in the church and the community, touched the lives of many people with her compassion, wisdom and love.
Survivors are her seven children, Robert Crumbley (Myrtice), Helen McMurray, Zelma Holt, all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Rev. Samuel Crumbley (Jennifer) Newton, Georgia, Maxine Crumbley, Jefferson, Georgia, William Crumbley, Debra Monts (Rev. George, Jr.), all of Americus, Georgia; step daughter, Ruby Herron (Rev. James), Jefferson, Georgia; her sister, Martha Sanders, Birmingham, Alabama; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruby Thomas (Wilbert), Rev. Herbert Ellis, all of Miami, Florida, Bobbie Crumbley,Eufaula, Alabama, and Edna Mae Crumbley, Buena Vista, Georgia; 40 grandchildren, including seven devoted grandchildren, Quantivous Monts, George Monts, III, Tamika Rushin, Detrick Jackson,Willie Walton, Jr. (Sherika) and Yolanda Kelly; 58 Great Grandchildren, including 3 devoted great grandchildren, Ni‘Korian Ross, Qualyn Ross and Ke‘mari Searcy; 24 Great Great Grandchildren; four godchildren, Rev. Jerome Jones (Lorraine), James Washington (Thelma), Donnie Cottle (Linda) and Anthony Virgil; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, including three devoted nieces Annette Carter (Willie), Columbus, Georgia , Mary Julia Evans (Alphonso), Birmingham, Alabama and Mary Julia Jones (Willie C.), Ozark, Alabama; a host of other relatives and friends, including several devoted friends, Estella Jones, Lillie Bell Holloman, Bessie Bridges, Nettie Murray, Shawn Smothers, Stacey Kelly (Rev. Jamica), Willie Walton, Sr., Gail German, Mary Francis Prince, Nervina Adams, Evelyn Floyd and the Zion Hope Baptist Church Family; her caregivers, Angie Wimbush (Henry), Jackie Walton and Rosalyn Prince.
