The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Moody Road, Tazewell, Georgia. The Reverend Joe Oglesby, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery. The remains will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Lenton Smith, Sr. was born in Marion County, Georgia on October 1, 1928 to the late Sol Smith and Lessie Davis Smith. He was educated in the public school system of Marion County. Being reared in a family of four siblings, he was preceded in death by one brother, Solomon Smith. As a young man, Lenton desired a better life and in 1956 he moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where he was employed with Caldwell Trucking Company of Wilmington, Delaware. He retired in 1992 as a truck driver.
Lenton was married to the former Irene Morrison, and to this union they were blessed with seven children. Three children, Henry Smith, Mary Lessie Smith, and Sharon Smith, preceded him in death.
Also, in 1992, Lenton returned to his native land of Marion County, the Tazewell Community, where he remained until his demise which came on Monday, June 15, 2015.
Wilde wrote, “What is beautiful is a joy for all season and a procession for eternity.” Cherishing his memory are his children, Lenton Smith, Harry Smith, Stanley Smith and Sheila Smith, all of Wilmington, Delaware; his loving and devoted siblings, Leo Smith, Wilmington, Delaware and Annie Bell Walker, Miami, Florida; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, including Annie Odoms, Buena Vista, Georgia.
