Larry Perkins, age 61, passed on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Union Baptist Church, Norris Street, Montezuma, Georgia, where Reverend Joe Hairston is pastor. Reverend David Thomas, will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Georgia, Hwy 26 East, Oglethorpe, Georgia. 

Larry was born August 31, 1954 in Ideal, Macon County, Georgia to Ida Lee Perkins and the late Issac Byse.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Holmes Sanders.  He was a 1971 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School, Montezuma, Georgia.   Also, he was a veteran of the United States Navy.   At an early age he joined the Union Baptist Church of Montezuma, Georgia.

He married his one and only love, Ernestine Harris Perkins.  To this union they were blessed with two children.

In 2005 he retired from Torrey Homes after many years of dedicated services as a carpenter. After retiring, he continued to work on various jobs, keeping himself busy especially talking and giving advice. He was showered with love and affection by his beloved grandparents, the late Frank Perkins and Ocilla Fulks Perkins Hunter, who went on before him.

He leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Ernestine Harris Perkins, Jonesboro, Georgia; five children, Gabrielle Perkins-Dunn (Maurice Dunn), Riverdale, Georgia, Eric Perkins, Jonesboro, Georgia, Debbie Cottle (Quinton) Kathleen, Georgia, Larry Perkins, Jr. (and his friend, Trinese), Riverdale, Georgia and Kasshe Perkins Ingram (Fred), Smyrna, Georgia; mother, Ida Lee Perkins, Jonesboro, Georgia; twelve grandchildren J’Kai Perkins, Quenton Cottle, Jr., Hannah Cottle, Mich Cottle, Paul Perkins, Massiyah Dunn, Solomon Dunn, Destinee Mitchell, Dayshia Ingram, Denisha Ingram, Dashauna Perkins, Avianna Perkins; brother, James Holmes (Laverne), Dallas, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brooker  T. and Mildred Jones, Sr. Americus, Georgia; aunts and uncles, Betty Ager, Jonesboro, Georgia,  Mattie Studivant, Atlanta, Georgia,  Mary Ann Hunter,  Snellville, Georgia, Patricia Perkins, Ft. Valley, Georgia,  Carol Perkins, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jimmie Perkins, Atlanta, Georgia, Harold Perkins, Decatur, Georgia and  Luther Byse,  Atlanta, Georgia,  Mary Rogers, Ellaville, Georgia, Ann Frederick, Americus, Georgia and Leroy Frederick of Andersonville, Georgia; great aunts and great uncles, Florene Poole, Stone Mountain, Georgia  Ethelrene Coakley, Jacksonville, Florida,  Annie Lois Byse, Middleburg, Florida, Elzie Fulks  Ideal, Georgia, and Lola James (Earl), Byromville,  Georgia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earl Sanders, Griffin, Georgia, Willie Mae Nelson (Willie), Decatur, Georgia Crosby Strong (Tommy), Atlanta, Georgia, Linda Williams (R.B.), Decatur, Georgia, Bennie Fitzhugh (Christine), Forest Park, Georgia, Henry Davis Fitzhugh, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Jerome Asberry, Tampa, Florida and Gloria Jean Baker (John), Albany, Georgia, Brooker T. Your Uncle Willie Jones and I are truly sorry to hear about the loss of your husband Larry. You have our sincere heartfelt condolences. May the love of God, family and friends continue to comfort you.

To the Perkins family: I'm so sorry for the lost of your dear loved one. The Bible promises a resurrection of the righteous and righteous Acts 24:15. Almighty God's purposes for mankind will be realized. May these thoughts bring you comfort.

No measurement of time was long enough to spend with my dad. But I'm blessed to have had him for the thirty years that I did!!!!
PS. Dad in about 70 yrs save me a spot in that Upper Room.
