
Ms. Kayla Towan Phelps was born July 28, 2000, at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, Georgia to Mr. Hiawatha and Miska Golphin-Phelps. She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. She was a 2018 graduate of Americus Sumter High School. She then attended Albany State University with the dreams of becoming a teacher. While attending College she worked hard at various jobs but her favorite was Dairy Queen in Americus and Kinder Care of Smyrna Georgia. Her last job was Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Kayla was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Lonzia and Jacqueline Golphin and her paternal Great-Grandmother, Julia Bell Phelps.
Her life, love, laughter, and legacy will forever be cherished by her beloved family, Her parents Hiawatha and Miska Golphin-Phelps; four siblings: Hiawatha R. Phelps Jr, Tomorrace D. Phelps, Briyanna Y. Phelps, and Bryson James Phelps, Grandparents: Eddie James Edge, Bessie M. Brown and Helen Golphin. A loving and devoted Aunt, Ms. Lonnika Golphin; Aunts/Uncles, Shirely Golphin, Mary Lois McCannry (Larry), Paula Harpe, Gloria Simmons Compton, Ella Jordan (Lance), Hershey Phelps (Sabrina), Daniel J. Phelps, Eddie J. Edge Jr., Danny Williams (Juvy), Bernard Minter (Tonya). Great Aunts and Uncles Willie L Phelps (Dorothy), Willie Golphin, Janace Golphin Davis (Donnie), Reverend Freddie Golphin and James E. Golphin; one great great Aunt, Mrs. Mamie Lou Howell. Two devoted and loyal childhood friends, Jasmine Oliver and Taylor Jackson and A host of relatives and Friends.
