Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Buena Vista City Cemetery, 3rd Street, Buena Vista, Georgia.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.
Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
John Henry Stephenson was born on January 5, 1955 in Buena Vista, Georgia to the late Herbert Horace Stephenson and the late Alsedean Pryor Stephenson. He was preceded in death by one son, Dewayne Stephenson, and siblings Mary Alice McCoy, Herbert Stephenson Jr., Cleveland Stephenson, and Wilbert Stephenson. He was educated in the public school system of Marion County. He was a member of New Life Christian Ministries in Buena Vista, Georgia. He was employed for 32 years as a diesel mechanic at Wall Trucking Inc. of Ellaville, Georgia. On June 14, 1976 two hearts became one when John married the love of his life the former Nettie Murray. He loved fishing, grilling, painting cars, and watching westerns on TV.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Nettie Stephenson, Mauk, Georgia; three children, Derrick Stephenson (Yolanda), Blounttown, Florida, Maurice Stephenson (Aelicia), Buena Vista, Georgia, and Tanika Robinson, Warner Robinson, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Khalia Robinson, Kimora Robinson, Kelani Robinson, Lamonica Stephenson, Maurice Stephenson Jr., Katelyn Stephenson, Kamille Stephenson, Christian Stephenson, and Cameron Stephenson; siblings John Henry Walker (Janice), Willie L Stephenson (Mary), Aaron Stephenson (Debra), E.C. Stephenson, Joseph Stephenson, Ethel Neloms (Oliver), Mattie Hamilton (Nathaniel), and Rosa Lee Smith (Glen); mother-in-law, Vera Murray; sisters/brothers-in-law, Sylvia Bryant (Eddie), Richard Murray, Eva Mae Stephenson; aunts/uncles, Annie Pearl Hamilton, Joe Sales (Bertha), Hudson Murray, Otis Murray (Fannie), Mary Baisden (Eddie), Dorothy Thornton (James), Mable Johnson (Ernest), Willie Murray (Velma); a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
