
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Antioch Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 26 West, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Reverend Dr. George Porter, Jr., pastor will officiate. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia at 12:00 noon.
James was born November 19, 1946 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Willie Arthur Town and Eula Chastine Walker. Three siblings preceded him in death, Benjamin Walker, Gwenda McKellar and Lewis Walker III.
He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. He received his elementary education from the historic Oglethorpe Grammar School. After moving to Belleglade, Florida he acquired his high school diploma from Belleglade High School. On January 23, 1967 he enlisted into the United States Army where he acquired several awards, medals and ribbons for the faithful acts of duty and on March 23, 1972 he was honorably discharged.
He was married June 30, 1995 to the former Betty Jean McDonald Harp. He was blessed to be the father of two daughters and three stepchildren.
Survivors are his beloved wife of 17 years, Betty Jean Walker, Montezuma, Georgia; children, Veronica LaNee Walker and Andrea Jamekia Walker both of Oglethorpe, Georgia; three step-children, Jacquelyn D. Harp, Montezuma, Georgia, Bobby Harp (Terresena), Montezuma, Georgia and Donna Harp Brown (Dallas), Plains, Georgia; grandchildren; An’qualexus Walker, Nekiya Shelley and NeKeriyuna Shelley; step-grandchildren; Jessica Oliver, Brittany Rutledge, LaMorris Darling, Karlos Duncan, Jr., Charloski Carr and Aisha Carr; siblings, Mary Battle (Major), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Mae Eula Walker, Montezuma, Georgia, Gloria McDonald, Marshallville, Georgia, Phillip Walker, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Fannie Lee Bailey, Lillie Mae Town, Lucille Town Johnson, Willie B. Town and Calvin Town all of Macon, Georgia; aunts Fannie Lee Oliver, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Wanda Lee Chastine, Belleglade, Florida; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Ozie Edge (Harvey) Earlene Harp, Fred McKellar, all of Montezuma, Georgia, Arrie Dean Walker, Oglethorpe, Georgia and Mary Walker, Ellaville, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
