Irma Tookes was born in the small town of Oglethorpe, Georgia. On June 1, 1954, the late Willie Luke Tookes and Mary Lois Tookes gave birth to who would later become a loving, caring God fearing woman. Irma’s educational journey would start in the Macon County School System and help start her on her career path. She was a graduate of the 1973 Class of D.F. Douglass High School. Irma would eventually make Oglethorpe, Georgia her home and final resting place.

With a Christian foundation instilled in her, Irma joined Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church at a very early age. She would later relocate her membership to St. Paul A.M.E. Church and become an active member of the choir. St. Paul would be her final church home.

Irma was active for the early years of her life. She would work a number of years at Southern Frozen Foods, Inc. and eventually retire. However, Irma did not stop at retirement and maintained her zeal for staying active. She would go on to obtain her cosmetology license and finish her years as a beautician.

May it comfort you
and your family to know,
that when you lose a loved one
who has meant so much
and touched many people’s lives,
the grief that you are feeling
cannot take away
the happiness you all shared,
and that sorrow will fade in time,
but the love will remain forever.

With Our Deepest Sympathy

And He said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you,
for My strength is
Made perfect in weakness.”
