The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Shady Grove Baptist Church, White Water Road, Ideal, Georgia. Reverend David Thomas, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Gwen, as she was affectionately called, was born June 25, 1966 to Mary Frances Harris McMillian and the late Edward McMIllian. She was preceded in death by one sister, Sonya McMillian Miller. She was educated in public school system of Macon County where she was a 1984 graduate of Macon County High School of Montezuma, Georgia. She was a 1986 graduate of South Georgia Technical College of Americus, Georgia with a degree in Cosmetology. Gwen went on to be a Cook Supervisor with Macon State Prison and after several years of dedicated service, she retired due to declining health. She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church and the wife of the late Lawrence McKenzie.
She leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to her beloved son, grandchildren, mother, siblings and other beloved family members. Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy (Andreika) Westberry, Montezuma, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jewun Westberry and Janiya Westberry both of Montezuma, Georgia; three stepchildren, Derrick McKenzie, Danna McKenzie and Breann McKenzie; mother, Mary Frances Harris McMillian, Oglethorpe, Georgia; sisters and brothers, Kimberly McMillian Paster, Montezuma, Georgia, Wylonda Jones (Alfred) Lithonia, Georgia, Michael Harp, Warner Robins, Georgia and Michael McMillian, North Carolina; aunts and uncles, Laura Ann Harris, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Earl Gene (Aurora) Harris, Augusta, Georgia, Ernest Gaddy and Lorice Washington both of Tar Heel, North Carolina; five loving nieces and nephews, Julius (Lauren) Paster, San Antonio, Texas, Jada (Carl) Winchester, Charlotte, North Carolina, Jeremiah Walker and Kyler Phelps both of Montezuma, Georgia and Nicholas Phelps of Augusta, Georgia; brother-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Shirley McKenzie, James McKenzie, Linda Diann Robinson (Ellie), Blanche Rocquemore (Clarence), John McKenzie, and Mamie Hudson (Kenneth); and a host of other relatives and friends.
