Gracie Deloise Smith was born December 2, 1936, to the late Grady Sr. and Mittie Flowers. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Reginald Christopher Miller, siblings Grady Flowers Jr., Cullen Flowers, and Eula Flowers. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and attended the historic Flint River Farm School. From an early age she was deep-seated in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church where she served as the mother of the church and as president of the missionary society. Gracie retired after 30 years with Gold King as a lab technician, often taking in extra jobs as a seamstress, baker, and beautician in order to ensure her children were afforded a quality education. Her passion for service resulted in hours of volunteer work in the community. She often dedicated her time to the town’s hospital as a pink lady helping to care and comfort patients. She believed strongly in voters’ rights for all, which led to her commitment as a poll worker during elections. She talked to both the young and old encouraging others to exercise their right to make a difference by voting. Gracie was kind and soft spoken and often spoke at women’s conferences. She was a champion for encouraging women to excel beyond any adversities that held them back. Gracie was also a life member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Gracie was preceded in death by her beloved husband the late Henry L. Smith. Through this union Gracie and Henry blended a large and loving family together, that evolved into a life full of love and laughter.

She leaves to cherish her memories two devoted daughters Barbara Ann Miller of Suwanee, Georgia, Audrey Miller, Chattanooga, Tennessee; four step children Larry Smith (Brenda), Alvin Smith (Neudean), all of Stockbridge, Georgia, Sherill Swanson (Teddy) Buena Vista, Georgia, Velma Royal, Miami, Florida; one loving granddaughter Lizabeth Grace Leath, Roswell, Georgia; a beloved god daughter, Marianne Curry, Stockbridge, Georgia; two nieces, Gwendolyn Smith and Shonda Renee Phillips; nephew, Douglas Flowers, and a close knit community of friends and dedicated caregivers who loved her dearly.

To Audrey, Barbara and the entire Miller and Smith family. My heart is truly broken I have known mama Gracie from a little girl from around the corner . Mama Gracie would allow me to go to her children sitter with them. I will forever love her. I can say to the world mama Gracie was a phenomenon, virtuous woman , loves children, just people in general would feed you if you were hungry. At her house a Sunday dinner was a any day of the week dinner. Growing up visiting her home I never seen her Frown, always that gorgeous smile. Tears of joy I am weeping just because I know she will be singing in the Heavenly choir. I am going to miss her dearly. Yes, her church family, friends and love ones will truly miss her . My mother will welcome her they were life time friends. God ,Reg and love ones are awaiting on her arrival. Walk on in mama Gracie and get your crown.

I met Ms Gracie at the bank, where I worked as a teller. She was the most sweetest person ever. When she came into the bank, she and I would talk as long as we could. We would always hold on to each other’s hands and squeeze them before she left. She had the most loving and kind spirit. I loved her dearly. ♥️
