
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
Please also be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates to limit the number of attendees at all services at this time. We are limiting the number of attendees to no more than 10 at the funeral home chapel services and graveside services. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
Gloria was born January 15, 1948, in Macon County, to the late Emily Miller Davis and late Claudie Davis, Jr. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she attended the historic D. F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Over the years she was employed with Dixie Queen, Montezuma Nursing Home, Carter’s Fried Chicken, and Tyson Foods. Gloria was a lover of family, nature and fishing. She loved spending time with the grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and playing cards. She truly served as the matriarch for the family.
On June 9, 1980 two hearts became one as Gloria was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnny Powell, Sr. Their loved blossom for over twenty-five years and to this union they were blessed with five children; two preceded her in death, Michelle and Kimberly Davis.
She leaves to cherishes her memories a daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Northern Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren two of which she reared as her own Victavious Davis and Kimberly Davis of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Jakalen (Alicia) Northern, Fallon, Nevada, and Jakhya Northern of Jacksonville, Florida; one great grandchild, Jaliyah Northern of Fallon, Nevada; two stepchildren Charlene (Randy) Merritt of Duluth, Georgia and Johnny (Conswella) Powell of Jonesboro, Georgia; five step-grandchildren, Antwan (Elizabeth) Powell of Denver, Colorado, Jawan Powell and Brittany Powell of Jonesboro, Georgia, Brandon Merritt and Jordan Merritt of Duluth, Georgia; two sisters, Estella Kazinazrul, of Decatur, Georgia, Gladys Davis of Oglethorpe, Georgia; one brother, Ernest (Lucretia) Davis, Sr. Conyers, Georgia; two aunts, Mattie Gouch of Ellenwood, Georgia and Avonia Carson of Atlanta, Georgia.
