
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 11, 2017, St. Mark A.M.E. Church, Plains, Georgia. Pastor Shirley Strawter will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery, Plains, Georgia.
George Franklin Gaines was born on October 18, 1953 in Americus, Georgia to the late Annie Mae Clay Gaines. He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County. He was preceded in death by ten siblings. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Andersonville, Georgia. He was employed with Sumter Regional Medical Center, Americus, Georgia as a Security Guard up until his health decline in 2007.
On December 28, 2013, George was joined in holy matrimony to the Laura Wilson Gaines.
He leaves a lifetime of precious memories to his devoted wife, Laura Gaines, Americus, Georgia; one stepdaughter, Michele Burton (Richard), Plains, Georgia; two step grandchildren, Asiah Hughley, India Hughley both of Plains, Georgia; three siblings, Lillie Gaines, Americus, Georgia, Gloria Jean Wilson, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Leroy Gaines (Shirley), Montezuma, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers–in-law, Mae Frances Merritt (James), Ola Mae Wilson, all of Plains, Georgia, Marvin Wilson (Annie B), John Henry Wilson (Juanita) Americus, Georgia, Wade Wilson, Virginia Wilson, all in Americus, Georgia, Gene Wilson, Montezuma, Georgia, Ann Wilson, Bronx, New York, Leana Laney (Raymond), Colorado Springs, Colorado; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including five devoted friends, Michael Smith, Arthur Heightnee, Charles Maddox, Oscar Jones and Leroy Fredricks.
