Freddie Malow Ashmon, Sr. ceased from labor to rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Freddie was born March 14, 1941 to the late Willie Ashmon and the late Florence Haugabook Ashmon. He was the fourth child of sixteen children born to the union. Freddie grew up in the Henderson Community of Houston County. The family moved to Macon County whereas he acquired his High school education from the historic Flint River High School. Freddie met the girl of his dreams in elementary school – Bertha Mae Walters. He said he was “attracted to her outgoing nature and unwavering energy.” Everyone knew them as boyfriend and girlfriend throughout their school years. After high school Bertha relocated to Atlanta, Georgia for new opportunities and a fresh start. Freddie knew in his heart that he was in love with Bertha and decided to intervene. He drove to Atlanta, Georgia to make his case for a life together. Shortly after, the couple became one as they were united in marriage in 1960. This loving union produced one child – Freddie Leonard Ashmon, Jr. and they assumed guardianship of Harris Jefferson, a much beloved nephew.
These boys became Freddie and Bertha’s greatest joy. Freddie, Sr. sat proudly at his son’s graduation from college and later as he was sworn in as County Commissioner. He remained prayerful when his nephew Harris left to serve in the US Army National Guard, and later as he entered into the field of Criminal Justice.
Freddie was an excellent provider, loving husband, caring and supportive father and one of the nicest human beings on Planet Earth.
He leaves a legacy of love and many sweet memories to his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Mrs. Bertha Mae Walters Ashmon, son, Freddie L.
