Evelyn Clemons Williamson, age 81, passed on January 14, 2021, in Mt. Vernon, New York.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Freeman Hill Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia.

Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.

Our beloved Evelyn Clemons Williamson was born December 29, 1939 to the late Lucille Clemons (Albert) Tyson and the late Bural Thomas Wade, Sr. in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia.  She also preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Cooper, and one brother, Bural Thomas Wade, Jr.  The oldest of 10 children; her maternal instincts were established at a young age.

Evelyn was educated in the public school systems of  Sumter, Macon, and Schley Counties, starting at Andersonville Elementary School, Oglethorpe Grammar School and completing school at John Lewis High School class of 1959. Following high school she moved to New York with her Aunt Bessie Brown and Uncle Webster and furthered her education  majoring in Business Administration at Monroe College in New York. She then started her career as a teller at Chase Bank in Manhattan.

After 20 years of dedicated service she retired from the Bank of New York as an office manager. Always great with facts and figures, Evelyn never stopped counting money, providing excellent customer care and devoted service daily at 6am until the end of her shift to do it all over the next day. Independent and practical, Evelyn ambitiously continued working at both Sears and the Stop & Shop supermarket simultaneously, then Macy’s and Stop & Shop where she worked  for over 20 years.

Evelyn was soft-spoken and sometimes quiet.  Yet she was a fun-loving beautiful spirit who loved family, family gatherings, and traveling.  She had a heart of pure gold, and would give a welcoming conversation she never met a stranger.  Family and friends look forward to holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays you could always count on a call from her.

As a God-fearing woman and in keeping with her Christian foundation she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.  Her unwavering faith and love of God continued, Evelyn joined the band of Christian believers and became a member of Mount Vernon Heights Congregational Church UCC under the Leadership of Rev. Troy P. DeCohen. Evelyn regularly attended Sunday school, worship service, women ministry meetings.   She served on the Usher board and sang in the choir, and later became the Mother of the Church.

On January 14, 2021 God called Evelyn's name so softly that only she could hear and no one heard the footprints of the angels drawing near. A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is now still, a place is vacant in our heart that can nevermore be filled.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Bettia Williamson-Turner, Omaha, Nebraska; a precious granddaughter who was the center of her life and the apple of her eye, Chase Minola Robinson of Omaha, Nebraska; siblings, William E. Clemons of Andersonville, Georgia, Doris (George) Briggs and Alice (Eugene) Ferguson both of Americus, Georgia, Charles Tyson of Andersonville, Georgia, Nancy Tyson (fiancé Gregory Holden) of Tallahassee, Florida, Sandra (Thomas) Briggs of Grayson, Georgia, Deborah (Rev. Daniel) Dickson of Decatur, Georgia, Bethlyne Pamela (Eric) Bryant of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Rev. Ferlin (Minister Belinda) Tyson of Leesburg, Georgia, Betty Dean of Orlando, Florida, Sara (A.J.) Mills and Earnestine (Willie Robert) both of Andersonville, Georgia, Dr. Oneida (Arthur) Ingram, and Dr. Amanda (Sgt. Tony) Cooper, both of Americus, Georgia, Brenda (Melville) Griffin of Atlanta, Georgia and April Johnson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Michael (Annie) Wade of Americus, Georgia; aunts/uncle Daisy Clifton of Jamaica, New York, Rosa Mae Clemons of  Americus, Georgia, Cooper Webster Clemons of Andersonville, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
