Mr. Ernest Jackson, Jr., better known as “Crook,” transitioned on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Colonel Felton Cemetery, 502 South Street, Marshallville, Georgia.

Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.

Mr. Jackson was born on January 11, 1954 to the late Ernest Jackson, Sr. and Louise Skinner Jackson. As an infant, he was reared by the late J.P. Frederick and Nettie Maude Frederick whom he considered his mom and dad. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Johnny Skinner, Jimmy Skinner, Eartha Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Faye Jackson, Hattie Bell Caldwell, Ernestine Walton, and Jasper Frederick.

Mr. Jackson accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and joined St. John A.M.E. Church. Ernest was a member of the Historical D.F. Douglass High Class of 1972. He was known as the fastest track runner in the Middle Georgia area where he received numerous trophies for his outstanding accomplishments. He was employed at A.M. Bickley for many years until his health failed him. Many of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, landscaping work, and entertaining his selected group of family and friends. He was known by all as being very direct which you can contribute to his honesty.

Mr. Jackson leaves behind a legacy of love and many cherished memories: his children, Michael Perkins (Monique) Warner Robins, Georgia; Shannon Harris and Jermika Jackson both of Marshallville, Georgia; grandchildren, Sharkyla Arnold, Dywoneica Bryant, Mykeia Perkins, Makayla Perkins, Miyah Perkins, Cierra Harris, Jalyn Harris, and JerKayla Wright; one great grandchild, Kamoria Scherer; sisters and brothers, Mary Lou Jackson, Bettye Jean Martin (William), Nettie Rice (Julius), Eva Taylor (John), Lucious Jackson, Curtis Jackson, L.J. Jackson, Karen McCants (Aaron), Herman Jackson, Gregory Jackson, Cynthia Jackson, Ella Torres (Adalberto), and Jermaine Jackson; one sister-in-law, Janet Skinner; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, other relatives, and friends including very special nieces, Rena Slappey and Nacema Martin, a very devoted nephew, Aaron Jackson, many devoted cousins, Willie Germany, William Draines, Jr., Jerome Skinner, Trisia Skinner, Ruth A. Felton, and Lawrence Draines, devoted friends, Deon Robinson, Rudolph Felton, and Tommy Harden and a special friend, Paulette Crocker and her kids.

We grew up in the same household for many years. He was my cousin/uncle who kept me from being beat up by the street boys. He will truly be missed. RIH!!

Almost every time Crook and i talked we always ended up talking about our race against each other. He was D F Douglass fast man and I was Macon County highs(beat me by a hair). I always told him I wanted a rematch and he said I will give you one now, if I had my shoes. Told him when get get his shoes let me know. He never did get those shoes but I would always reminded him. Good Brother
