Emma Nelson Carter, age 90, 1006 Philemon Road North, Leesburg, Georgia passed Monday morning, September 3, 2012 at her home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 195, Leesburg, Georgia. The Reverend Sterlie Calhoun, Jr., pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sue Walker Cemetery, Buck Nelson Road, Cobb, Georgia.

Mrs. Emma Nelson Carter was born January 6, 1922 in Leesburg, Lee County, Georgia to the late Jerry Nelson and Darkis Johnson Nelson. Born in a family of twelve, Emma was the last of the children. On Monday morning, September 3, 2012 Emma joined those who has gone on before her. She was the queen of hearts. Her service to her family and mankind had no boundaries or limits.

At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers New Beulah Baptist Church and later she moved her membership to Jackson Grove Baptist Church to be with her husband and family. In the later years after moving further south in Lee County she joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church of Leesburg. She served faithfully on the Deaconess Board and Women Missionary Auxiliary Board.

Emma was united in holy matrimony to her one and only love, the late Deacon Mospell Carter. To this union they were blessed with six children. They will especially remember her legacy and memories, the quiet soft-spoken voice, the lovely smiles, her teaching, and most of all her love. Survivors are four daughters and two sons (their spouses), Mercides Carter, Leesburg, Georgia, Walker (Mary) Carter, Brockton, Massachusetts, Dorothy (Jessie) Mercer, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Roosevelt Carter, Atlanta, Georgia, Willa (Joseph) Seabrooks, McDonough, Georgia, and Betty Vereen, Middletown, Connecticut; four grandchildren, Jessie Mercer, Jr., Cedric Carter, Keisha Vereen, and Romero C. Brooks; one great granddaughter, Sunali Marie Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, including one devoted niece, Marie Jones, Albany, Georgia; a host of beloved relatives and friends, including her maid of honor, Mrs. Margaret Wright, Cobb, Georgia.
