The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Bridges Street, Buena Vista, Georgia. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Mt. Zion Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.
Mrs. Ella Bess was born in Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia on October 10, 1930 to the late Rosie Lee Green Lockhart. She was educated in the public school system of Marion County. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Willie Mae Lockhart, Lovie Jane McCauley and John Wesley. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. For some fifty years, she served faithfully in every facet of the Church she loved so well. For a number of untiring years, she served as the Mother of the Church. She will long be remembered as a great cook, especially known for her sweet potato pies.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Moses Lee Bateman, Sr. She was blessed with ten wonderful and loving children. She had the guiding hand that held them together in loving, sharing and keeping them in the word of God. She leaves a legacy of love, sweet and cherish memories to her beloved children and family, ten beloved children and their spouses: Moses Lee Bateman, Jr. (Sue), Abbeville, Georgia, Willie Lee Williams (Joe), Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Ella Mae Robinson (Courtney), Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Willie Rose Bateman, William Tucker Person, Wiley Bateman, Janice Walton (Harrell), Barbara Walton (Terrace), Terry Hall, all of Buena Vista, Georgia and Sherry Ann Bateman (Adrian), Atlanta, Georgia; 17 grandchildren, including three devoted grandchildren, Shetria, Briana and Mack; 12 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; three siblings, Annie Ruth Terry (Ulysses, Sr.) Indianapolis, Indiana, Inez Ivory, Buena Vista, Georgia and James C. Lockhart, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; brother-in-law, Bonnie Lockhart, Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; a host of beloved nieces, including devoted niece Paula Nelson, Columbus, Georgia, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a very devoted employer and friend, Julie VanMeter, Buena Vista, Georgia.
