Elizabeth Brown English, age 81, 776 Oscar English Road, Andersonville, Georgia, passed on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at home.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Railroad Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Elizabeth Brown English was born on April 12, but documented on April 19, 1937 in Buena Vista, Georgia to the late Tom and Mary Brown. She was the baby of 16 children. After losing her parents at a young age, Elizabeth went on to live with her siblings as they became her new guardians.

In the year 1950, Elizabeth and her sister Eva relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where they furthered their education. Elizabeth attended the New York City Public School System and graduated from Sarah J. Hale High School in 1955.

As a teenager Elizabeth sang in the choirs of Evergreen Church of God in Christ where she accepted the Lord as her savior. Later in life she met and dated her beloved husband Nathaniel J. English, Sr. and married in 1959. To this union three children were born, two daughters, and a son. Elizabeth had a loving and charitable heart; she was a foster parent for over 20 years. She also was employed by the New York City Police Department as a school safety agent and retired in 1995.

She continued her spiritual growth at Jenkins Thriving Temple, where she served as church secretary and sang in the choir. As Jenkins Thriving Temple ended, she moved her membership to Epiphany Church of God in Christ where she faithfully served as President of the Women’s Board until she relocated to Georgia in 2005.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by 14 siblings: Willie Drain, Carlton Brown, Rosie Bell Wedner, Essie Minter, Allen Brown, Jessie Richardson, Ollie Fleming, Emmett Brown, Wilbur Brown, Bessie Ray, Katie Lue Walton, John Bailey Brown, Lilly May Tomlinson, and Eva Ruth Wiggins. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Natalie English. All of whom the family miss and treasure within our hearts.

Elizabeth leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Nathaniel English, Sr., of Andersonville, Georgia; her loving daughter, June English and grandson Robert Jones, of Brooklyn, New York; her adoring son, Nathaniel English, Jr. (Andrea), granddaughter Laijun English and second grandson, Nathaniel English III, of Andersonville, Georgia; a sister Thelma Sales, of Brooklyn, New York; four sisters-in-law, Artie Zell Schofield (Walter) and Ruby Ludaway, of Jacksonville, Florida, Margaret English, of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Timmie Brown, of Florida; two brother-in-laws, Elder Van Snead, of St. Petersburg, Florida and Gene Wedner, of Queens, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

I miss my mom already! The house just isn’t the same! Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. Losing someone we love in death can be very painful , but God promises to do away with that enemy death forever. (1 Corinthians 15:26) And he promises us a wonderful hope of bringing our dear loved ones back to life by means of a resurrection. ( John 5:28,29) May the memories of Mrs. English be forever in your heart.
