Dr. Deborah Jones passed away on November 25, 2023.

A wake service will be held from 4:00-5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church, 411 Cotton Avenue, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens, Corner of Mayo Street and Southerfield Road, Americus, Georgia.

Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.

I met Ms./Dr Jones when she came to work for Randolph County. She has been a great asset to our county as manager. She has been a great friend as well as massage therapist go my business. Over the past year since she came to work in Randolph County, I got to know Dr. Deborah Jones personally and professionally, and I feel as if I lost a sister. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of heart her husband, her mother, and her siblings are experiencing right now. Sending her loved ones my deepest condolences…
Her doctorate degree was indicative of her aptitude and intelligence, but it was her emotional intelligence that reflected her attitude toward others. She treated folks the way she wanted to be treated. She took on the tasks of Randolph County with grace, tenacity, and a listening ear. What she did not know or have an answer for, she would research. So, when she spoke it, she was going to stand on the facts. She knew the techniques for calming the storms of potentially explosive situations. It is my hope that the Randolph County Board of Commissioners and the staff of Randolph County will finish the projects she started as a means of preserving her legacy. What a legacy she left and some large shoes to fill!
