Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia. Service will be streamed live.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Charlie was born December 6, 1931 to the late Emmett Harvey and Eulisha Jones Harvey in Schley County, Georgia. He passed on Friday, February 4, 2022
Charlie acquired his education in the public school system of Schley County.
He was a member of United Holiness Church Headquarters of Americus, Georgia for many years and was one of the Carpenters, Pastors and Pillars who helped to organize and build the Church. In earlier years, Charlie was also a member of The Healing Temple Church, where Bishop P. J. Welch was Pastor.
In addition, Charlie loved to have bible study at all times and when you called or visited with him, he would always give you a few scriptures. He loved listening to his gospel quartets sing. Charlie was also a self-employed Carpenter who learned solely from experience, so much so that he planned and built his own two story home and other members of the church and friends joined to help him. Charlie loved to sing and play guitar and was in several quartets that performed all of Georgia and adjoining states. He trained his sons how to play guitar and help start the family singing group The Harvey Singers.
Charlie acquired his education in the public school system of Schley County until around eighth grade when he quit in order to work full-time to help support his family.
Charlie worked for Sumter County Schools for over 30 years and Davis Casket Company for various years and The Basket Factory in Americus as well as various other jobs.
He was united in holy matrimony to Christine Greene on November 1, 1953, and to this union, seven children were reared.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Christine Greene Harvey; two children, Wayne Harvey and Carol Wright; eight siblings, Lorene “Rene” Harvey, Julia Harvey, Christine Harvey Sales, Nettie Mae Harvey, Henry Lee Harvey, Ella “Ziella” Harvey Huff, Jennie Harvey Terry, and Emmitt “Mitchell” Harvey Jr.; seven brothers-in-law, Homer Floyd, Caleb Greene, Jessie James Jones, Sr., Alvin Greene, John Henry Greene, Walter Huff, Charlie Terry Sr.; two sisters-in-law Barbara Hunt and Clariece Williams Harvey.
Survivors include six devoted children, Charlie C. Harvey, Jr. (Martha), Dennis Harvey (Margaret), Cheryl Clemons (Joseph), Eric D. Harvey (Dorothy), all of Americus, GA, Cassandra Benjamin (Michael), Jonesboro, GA, Johnny Barron (Meliton), Fairburn, GA; one sibling, Mary Jones, Atlanta, GA; one daughter-in-law Deborah Harvey, Americus, GA; one son-in-law Warren Wright, Columbus, GA; one sister-in-law, Cassie Floyd, Americus, GA; twenty one grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
