The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church,1521 Mt. Zion Road, Ellaville, Georgia. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Mrs. Carrie Lue Murray Baisden Varner was born in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia on May 23, 1922, to the late Albertha Wallace Murray and the late Burton Murray. She was preceded in death by two siblings Irene Murray Kleckley and Ola Mae Murray Smith. She was educated in the public school system of Schley County where she finished the 7th grade. At an early age Carrie joined the band of Christian believers and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ellaville, Georgia. Mrs. Carrie worked as a cook with the Lighthouse Café and as a housekeeper at the Americus Motel.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Jimmy Baisden Sr. and to this union seven children were born. Two preceded her in death Shirlyn Baisden Wilson, and Alice Baisden Lane and one grandson Steven Wiley. Later in life, Carrie found love again and married the late Ernest Varner. She loved cooking, canning food, caring for her family and especially going to church.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her five children Jimmie Burton Baisden Jr., Vallejo, California, Freddie Baisden ( Marilyn), Atlanta, Georgia, Caroline Baisden Terry (god son Larry Burns), Atlanta, Georgia, Cleve Baisden (Vern), Decatur, Georgia, Marva Baisden Ziegler, East Point, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Jovita Baisden Bradford , Lisa Baisden Johnson (Gregory), Felicia Baisden Padgett (Gregory), Stephanie Wiley, Sheree Baisden Nickleberry, Tina Baisden Young (Shawn), Pamela Baisden Reed (Carlos), John Ziegler III, and Carmen Baisden Moyston, twenty great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. We give thanks to Miss. Natoshia Kendrick, her caretaker, for the loving care she give to our mother.
