The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow at Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Bertha Williams McDonald was born March 9, 1923 in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia to the late James and Daisy Hayes Williams. She was preceded in death by all five of her siblings Fred Williams, Annie Katie Harvey, Iris Jenkins, Johnny Williams, and Mary Riggins. Bertha was known by many as “Mom, Mama Bert, Grandma Bert, Aunt, and cousin Bert”. She was educated through the local church school starting at New Phillip before attending Macon County Training School. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and at the age of 12 she joined New Hope Baptist Church and as time passed by she continued to serve the Lord through Jehovah Baptist Church, Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church where she served as Assistant Clerk and Mother of the Church, and in 2007 following in the footsteps of her mother she became a member of New Phillip Primitive Baptist Church.
Bertha was joined in holy matrimony to the late Oscar McDonald and to this union one child was born Jeanette McDonald Feggins she also preceded her in death. After marrying the love of her life they moved to Ohio where she gained employment with Hoover Company for several years. She also worked with the United Service Organization (USO), where she booked live entertainment such as musicians for members of the United States Armed Forces. This provided her with the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet many great talents like Duke Ellington and Count Basie. After moving back home she worked for over 30 years at Southern Frozen Food as a Grader, she retired in 1987.
She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and legacy to her two grandchildren Bertha Clark (Douglas), Oglethorpe, Georgia, Ronald Hedgemen Brunswick, Georgia; great grandchildren Jermahl Clark, Ludowici, Georgia, Jametta Nichols (Lorenza), Oglethorpe, Georgia, China Brooks, Washington, D.C, one great great grandchild Lauren Nichols; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
