Barbara Ann Jackson Mathis passed on March 30, 2022, at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Jehovah Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.

Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.​

Barbara Ann Jackson Mathis was born February 12, 1964 to the late Mary Lou Hankerson Jackson and the late Theotis Jackson, Sr. in Americus, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alvin Hankerson. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Deacon and Mrs. Bruce and Ola Mae Nelson Hankerson; by her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Inez Mathis; three of her husband siblings: (Christine Lepford, and Lenton Mathis), her aunts, Burnice Mae Hankerson Leigh, Nettie Clara Ford, Virgina H. Walker, Barbara Hankerson, Annie Maude Hankerson, Ola Mae Hankerson Brown, Peggy Hankerson and Ola Mae Hill Hankerson.

She was educated in the public school system of Americus, whereas she graduated in 1981. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Jefferson St., Americus, Georgia whereas  Reverend H. C. Wilson was pastor.
 
She was united in holy matrimony to her one and only love, Leroy Mathis and to this union they were blessed with three children Katrina Ann Mathis Hall (Thadeous), Americus, Georgia, Nicholas Mathis, Ruther Glenn, Virginia and Curtis Mathis, Americus, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; one sister Debora Cox, Americus, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their spouses, Freda Hankerson, Atlanta, Georgia, Bertha Lee Mathis, Margret Mathis McCant (Doug), Eddie James Mathis, Sammie Mathis (Linda), Dennis Mathis (Friend, Marquita), all of  Oglethorpe, Georgia, Jade Mathis (Deborah), Joan Mathis, Atlanta, Georgia, Rose Mathis Lyles and Willie Mathis both of Montezuma, Georgia. Aunts and uncles, Thomas Hankerson, Belleglade, Florida, Amelia Hankerson, Dea. James Hankerson,and  Joe Lewis Ford all of Oglethorpe, Georgia; Katie Mae Tookes, Rosean, Ford both of Jacksonville, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
