The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, River Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant C.M.E. Cemetery, Whiteline Street, Montezuma, Georgia.
Arthur Edward Barrett was born on November 27, 1934 in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Nettie Fuller and Claude Barrett. Artie as he was known by family and friends was preceded in death by his son, Michael Barrett, and two siblings, Willie Claude Barrett and Betty Smith. In 1951 at the young age of 17 he joined the United States Air Force and was assigned in Alaska as a Navigator. Following his honorable discharge in 1955 he relocated to Brooklyn, New York and soon found employment with ITT World Communications as a Teletype Operator where he worked faithfully until his retirement.
In 1957 Artie married the late Margaret Green and moved to Hempstead, New York where they raised their seven children. Later on in life Artie had a second chance at love and married the former, Bernice Jackson.
Artie was a avid golfer, which he loved to play with his son, Arthur Jr. He enjoyed music and was a known trumpet player and karaoke singer. He also loved to travel.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Bernice Jackson-Barrett; seven children Cynthia Barrett, Michelle Barrett, Carolyn Phillpotts (Gregory), LaShawn Barrett; Arthur Barrett, Jr. (Belinda), Devon Barrett, and Rachel Barrett; stepchildren, Virginia Stevens, Lurgene Loftly (Tonika) and Catherine Sanders; seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; a sister Claudette Belto; sister-in-laws Emma Jean Jackson and Landis Ogburn; brothers-in-law, Fredrick Jackson and Donald Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, including his beloved puppy Timmy.
