Mr. Alonzo Edwards, age 67 passed on March 17, 2018.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery, 496 Cemetery Road, Andersonville, Georgia.
Alonzo Edwards was born June 19, 1950 in Reynolds, Macon County, Georgia to the late John Allen Edwards and Eura Bell Edwards.
Alonzo was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a 1968 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 2, 1968 where he received the Purple Heart Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Bronze Service Star. He was the president of the Atlanta Chapter of the Blind Veterans Association.
Survivors are one brother, John Heard Edwards, Union City, Georgia; a niece Teaunya Edwards, Wichita, Kansas; one goddaughter, Charlette Dixon Taylor, Fairburn, Georgia; and a host of relatives and friends.
