
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Corner of Russell and Johnson Streets, Oglethorpe, Georgia, where Reverend Norris Harris is pastor. The Reverend Lewis Burton, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia.
Minister Alma Marie Griffin Golphin was born July 25, 1961 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Willie Griffin, Sr. and the late Marie Sturnes Griffin. Born in a family of thirteen she was preceded in death by two brothers, S. T. Griffin and Sammie Griffin.
She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and Chattanooga, Tennessee where she received her high school diploma in 1980. She later earned her degree in early childhood development and open a day care center from her home.
At an early age she joined the St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Oglethorpe, Georgia. She later joined the New Life Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Johnny Lundy. In 2001, the fifteenth of April she was married to Reverend Freddie Golphin. As a result of their union, they joined New Bethel Baptist Church of Dooly, Georgia. After her husband became the pastor of Little Creek Baptist Church of Byromville, she moved her membership there, where she have worked diligently and supported every ministry of the church she loved so well.
She leaves a legacy of love and many fond memories to her beloved husband of sixteen years, Reverend Freddie Golphin, Oglethorpe, Georgia; her beloved children, Kelvin Stewart, Alfrederick Golphin, Camron Golphin all of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Dwan Rogers (Jeff), Ellaville, Georgia, Tyrone Golphin (LaShawn), Andera Golphin all of Jacksonville, Florida, Denise Golphin, Ellaville, Georgia and Jayvis Golphin, Jacksonville, Florida; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; ten siblings, Fannie Carter (Leroy) Jacksonville, Florida, Rosa Lee Perkins, Macon, Georgia, R. C. Griffin, Cordele, Georgia, Alvin James Griffin, Jacksonville, Florida, Abraham Griffin, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Elder Johnnie Griffin (Susie), Jacksonville, Florida, Jannie Hamilton, Ideal, Georgia, Leroy Griffin (Sonya) Oglethorpe, Georgia, Willie Griffin, Jr. Jacksonville, Florida, and Mary Linton, Oglethorpe, Georgia; one aunt, Annie Lee Sturnes, Chattanooga, Tennessee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Deacon Willie Golphin (Elmer), Gloria Varner (Charles) all of Americus, Georgia, Donnie Davis (Janice) Byron, Georgia, Alonzo Golphin (Helen) Americus, Georgia and James Eddie Golphin, Memphis, Tennessee; a host of beloved nieces and nephews including one devoted, Jessica Freeman; a host of relatives and friends including Bernice Smith of Dooling, Georgia.
