The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 20, 2019 at New St. Paul Baptist Church, 118 Packing House Road, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens in Americus, Georgia.
Alma, better known as “Jean,” was born July 28, 1965 in Americus, Georgia to the parentage of Charles Cooper, Sr. and the late Delois Hightower. She was preceded in death by her mother, Delois Cooper, and sisters, Shirlene Cooper and Dianne C. Myers. She was educated in the public school system of Sumter County where she attended Southeast High School. She completed nursing school and went on to do what she loved best - being a “caregiver”. She worked as a private sitter and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Magnolia Manor until her health began to fail. Jean accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian Believers at New St. Paul Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia. Jean was a very loving, nurturing, and outspoken individual. She took in and raised nearly all her nieces and nephews at some point in their lives. Jean truly fulfilled her role as “a mother.”
She leaves to cherish her memories: her father Charles Cooper Sr. (Mary); siblings, Charles Cooper Jr. (Rosie), Sharon Cooper, Lisa Cooper, and Jacqueline Hall who was her devoted caregiver; step siblings, Sammy Mable, Sr., Johnny Waters, Mary Williams (Gregory), Claude Waters Sr. (Geneva), Eddie Waters Sr. and Deborah Waters; aunts and uncles, Ora D. Williams, Mary Clark, Evelyn Floyd, Arthur Clark (Margaret), Melissa Ann Pizzaro, Albert Cooper (Josephine), Vivian Cooper Bridges, Evelyn Terry, Mabel Williams, Doris Hightower, Dean Cooper, James Cooper, and Alonzo Cooper (Helen); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including devoted brothers-in-law, Aldean Holmes, Ernest Cooper, cousin, Debra Clark, friends, Ms. Grace and Robert Lee Lockhart; also including the ones she raised as her own, a devoted niece, Lakeshia Myers, cousin Denise Clark; great nieces/nephews, Lakeria Myers, Trikel Davis, Joshua Myers, Makaylah Campbell and Jatavious Campbell, who was most recently under her care.
