It took me several days to come to terms that this is real. My wife and I send our deepest condolences to Melvin’s family and friends. I will miss his laughter and wisdom. Although our families go back decades, I got to know Melvin better when we served as Attendants and worked together in the same department at our conventions. He encouraged me a great deal and we shared some great laughs. I enjoyed listening to his stories about our families. I look forward to seeing him again! Jehovah has promised that the grave will give up those dead in it. There will be a resurrection of those who are safe in His memory. Melvin had that hope. He is safe in Jehovah’s memory. Keeping the Tookes family and all who loved Melvin in our thoughts and prayers. May Jehovah give you true comfort and peace.

My sincere condolences to the Tookes family. I got to know Melvin when he came to the Americus East Congregation and he was such a delight to be around. When we mourn the loss of a loved one it can grieve our heart and make us yearn for the day when Jehovah will keep the promise he made of no pain, no death, and no sorrow.

My deepest heartfelt condolences go to the Tookes family. When Stewart Carter and I served as pioneers in the Montezuma Georgia Congregation the Tookes family adopted us as part of their family. Melvin personified Proverbs 18: 24. He was a friend that became closer than a brother. I will miss him dearly as I know many will. When I think of what a good person we have lost, how such loss hurts, and brings tears to our eyes, I am reminded of his faith in Jehovah’s promise that it’s only for a little while. The hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. (John 5:28-29) Yes, we will have our brother back again. It’s just around the corner.

We were deeply saddened to here of our dear brother falling asleep in death. Although, we re encouraged knowing he remained faithful to the end and ran the race to the finish. We look forward to the time where peace will dwell on the earth and Jehovahs purpose will come to fruition. We have so many fond memories of Melvin and many stories that kept us laughing, looking forward to hearing many more in the promised new world. Our deepest condolences go the Tookes family. We didn't know Melvin for a long period of time, but in the short time we knew him he left a lasting positive impression on us with his kind and loving demeanor.
Even though time and unforeseen occurrences (Ecclesiastes 9:11) befall us all, it is comforting to know that in God’s righteous new world, there will be genuine love for one’s fellow humans and respect for the precious gift of life. Jehovah promises that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous. May he keep this family close to his bosom and wrap his arms around each of you and give you the strength and the power to endure this trial. Our prayers for you is too hang on because very soon not only will death be no more (Revelation 21:3,4), but all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and they will come out. The comfort and hope from the scripture is, you will see your loved one again.

You were the best Uncle I was given in this life. And for that I’m eternally grateful. To my cousins and family. Be strong, and know that we are a strong family. I love you all.

My memories of Melvin go back to 1981 when Charlotte and I moved from Chicago to Montezuma to serve where the need was greater. We travelled there in an old Ford that very surprisingly made it to Georgia! Melvin kept it running for years after that! He looked out for us as our big brother with much kindness and hospitality. He will be greatly missed — but only for a little while — because we look forward to seeing him soon when he awakens from sleep. My deepest condolences to the family! 💕
