
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 1, 2024, at Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery, James Road, Montezuma, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such a high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Dannie Jean Dennis Coates, the daughter of Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Mary Frances Dennis, was born on January 14th, 1944, in Montezuma, Georgia. At an early age, Dannie joined and was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Her parents instilled and exposed her to a Christian way of life. When Dannie came back to Montezuma, Georgia, she always attended Zion Hill Baptist Church. Danie attended the Historic Flint Farm School and graduated from the Historic D. F. Douglass High School.
Following high school, Dannie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she attended Atlanta Business Tech and Atlanta Area Tech.
Dannie worked various jobs including Scientific Atlanta, Lithonia Lighting, Northern Telecom, Control Data with BTG, Dekalb County School System as a Nutritionist Assistant, and Emory University as a Food and Nutrition Tech. Dannie was known for her great personality, her love for planting flowers, cooking, and tending to her veggie garden.
Dannie was preceded in death by her mother, father, granddaughter Trinity, husband Willie “Bud” Coates, and siblings, Charles and Willie Dennis, Jane Holmes, and Mary Neil Dennis. On March 21, 2024, Dannie entered eternal rest.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her dedicated children, Lillian Coates (Erik), Conyers, Georgia and Jason Shuman (Kirsten), McDonough, Georgia; five grandchildren, Shuntay Coates, Jennifer Coates (Natasha), Taylor Coates, King Shuman, and Jayah Shuman; great grandchildren, Saniah Coates, Tony Coates, Markus Coates, Jacob Cotton, Ayuni Coates, and Brooklin Wright; two brothers, James Dennis (Alice), Montezuma, Georgia and Kelvin Dennis (Pam), Decatur, Georgia; seven sisters, Betty Jean Dennis Rumph (Mike), Perry, Georgia, Hattie Cross, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Frances Dennis, Decatur, Georgia, Annie Dennis Smalls (James), Decatur, Georgia, D. Elaine London, Locust Grove, Georgia, Jeannette Dennis Harris (Anthony), Ellenwood, Georgia; close cousin, Bobbie Jean Howard, Fort Mills, North Carolina; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; a very special friend, Velma Jean Evans, Deluth, Georgia; a close friend, Amber; very close friend, George Shuman, who preceded her in death; her caretakers, Chris Howell and Chesley Gulder; and Bridgeway nurses, Rosline and Ruhtee.
