The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Gilfield Primitive Baptist Church, Americus, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Americus, Georgia.
Mrs. Carter was born February 21, 1912 in Marion County, Georgia to the late Jim Dismuke and Mattie Croxton Dismuke. She was married to the late Henry “Buddy” Carter. To this union they were blessed with four children; three preceded her in death, George Carter, Mattie Carter Pless and Bennie Carter. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Jimmie Lee Dismuke, Walter Dismuke, Joseph Dismuke, Lois Dismuke Carter and Annie Dismuke Jackson, also one grandchild she reared as her own preceded her in death Charlie Carter . She was educated in the public school system of Marion County. She joined the Mount Rami Primitive Baptist Church of Leslie, Georgia whereas she served faithfully until her health began to decline.
Survivors are one son, Henry Carter (Mary), Miami, Florida; one nephew she reared as her own, Dwight “Pig” Hodge Miami, Florida; brother, Robert Coleman, (Ludenia), Americus, Georgia; grandchildren: Darrell (Iona) Jones, Tallashassee, Florida, Horace Pless, Jr. (Vickie), Stafford Virginia, Shirley Pless Wesley (Melvin), Albany, Georgia, George Pless, (Janice), Warner Robins, Georgia, Alice Pless Burgest (Eurah), Albany, Georgia, Brenda Carter, and Patricia Carter both of Connecticut, Allison Lynn Carter, George Carter, Jr. and Joyce Carter, all of Americus, Georgia. Others; a host of nieces, nephews, one devoted niece, Evangelist Frances Haugabook, Americus, Georgia, other relatives and friends.
