Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Whiteline Street, Montezuma, Georgia.
Please be mindful that we will adhere to all government recommendations and mandates at all services at this time. We are limiting graveside seating to no more than 10 with masks being strongly encouraged. Other masked attendees are welcomed but will be expected to practice social distancing.
Graveside services are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Mrs. Ophelia Felton Stewart Tookes was born January 7, 1933, in Montezuma, GA to the late Charlie Felton and the late Mae Lillie Howard Felton. She grew up in Montezuma and graduated from Macon County Training School. She attended Morris Brown College, before returning home and starting her life in Montezuma. She joined Mt. Pleasant/Travelers’ Rest C.M.E. Church at a young age and devoted her life to Christ. Ophelia served diligently and faithfully by singing in the choir and serving on the Hospitality Committee. She was joined in holy matrimony to Johnnie Stewart until his death. Later, she married John Tookes Sr. until his death. Ophelia was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was loved by all in the community.
Ophelia held various positions around the county, including working at Southern Frozen Foods, as a dietician at Oglethorpe Elementary School, and as a staff member at Montezuma and Taylor County Nursing Homes. Many of her roles were in service to others providing them with love and comfort. She joined The Order of the Eastern Star and continued to serve through its mission.
Mrs. Ophelia Felton Stewart Tookes departed this life on Friday, February 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her sister, Iona Felton Lowe, and her stepson, John Tookes, Jr. Ophelia is survived by her siblings, Charles B. Felton of Miami, FL, and Nettie R. Ashmon and Lucretia Mason of Montezuma, GA; her children, Olivia Harmon of Oglethorpe, GA, Johnetta Hawkins (Paul) of Decatur, GA, and Samuel Stewart of Macon, GA; her stepchildren James Tookes and Helen Tookes of Oglethorpe, GA; and a host of caring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends, and church family.
