Mrs. Minnie Lee Jones Hix, age 74, passed on March  2, 2016 at her residence in Queens, New York.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 8, 2016, Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Reverend Paul Dunbar will officiate. Burial will follow at the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Minnie Lee Jones Hix was born May 1, 1941 in Oglethorpe, Georgia to the late Malachi and Dorothy Jones. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a 1961 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Following graduation, Minnie moved to New York. It was there she met the love of her life Emmitt Hix. On Dec 18, 1961, Emmitt and Minnie were joined in holy matrimony, and to this union their only child, Maxie Regina Hix, was born.

While living in Brooklyn, New York, Minnie joined Berean Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and dedicated member.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time in both New York and her native home in Georgia.  Minnie had a very caring and given heart, as she was known as a mother figure to many. She is preceded in death by her only sister, Betty Jean  Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted daughter, Maxie Regina Hix Smith (Shelby), Warner Robins, Georgia; two grandchildren, Lawrence Aaron Prichard, Opal Leigh-Ann Prichard both of Warner Robins, Georgia; aunts and uncles, Sarah Tookes, Ideal, Georgia, Lula Washington, Robert Washington (Lola), both of Brooklyn, New  York, Thomas Frank Jones, Christine Jones, Willie Suggs (Annie), all of Ideal, Georgia, Ollie Patterson, Ann Johnson, Jenny Bell Chambers (Buster), Betty Watson, Luther Hix (Lois), New York, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including devoted friends Mary White, Fort Valley, Georgia, Elaine Clark, Montezuma, Georgia, Thomas Forbes, Atlanta, Georgia, Blanche Mayes, Atlanta, Georgia,  and Marsha Jones, Warner Robins, Georgia.

Regina, Minnie loved the LORD. She enjoyed her life. She love you, her grand children, her family and friends. You are a great daughter, always making sure she had everything she needed and desired. You are proof that she was a great mom and a kind hearted caring person. I've always admired her dedication to the Jones family. I will forever remember how surprised she was when about 10 of us Jones showed up at her surprised 70th birthday party in New York. She could not believe it. I can't believe I won't get to "cut up" and laugh with her on this side again. I will truly miss her. Much Love, Vernell
