A beautiful soul has left this world, but her spirit now glows brightly in Heaven. Born on April 1, 1922, to the late Parker Sr. and Julia Joseph, Marie was the third of their children and the last to transition from this earthly life. She was united in marriage to the late Mott Plass Jackson on June 3, 1939. From their union, they were blessed with nine children. Marie led by example, instilling in her children the importance of faith in Christ, the value of education, and the advantage of hard work, living out these principles through her actions more than her words.
Marie joined Antioch Baptist Church at an early age, where she was a life-long, faithful member. She served dutifully on the Mother Board until her health began to decline. Her commitment to her faith, family, and community was unwavering. She was a driving force behind many community efforts, including her involvement in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations, working tirelessly for the betterment of her family and community.
Marie cherished her relationship with God and treasured her family. She will be fondly remembered for her warm hospitality, love of cooking, green thumb in the garden, and her joy in listening to gospel music, especially her favorite artist, Dottie Peoples. She dedicated many years to working at Southern Frozen Foods before retiring.
On her 100th birthday, Marie was honored with a community parade that celebrated her extraordinary life. This tribute will remain etched in the memories of her loved ones.
As Marie entered the pearly gates of Heaven, she was reunited with her beloved husband, Mott Plass Jackson, and her children Edward Jackson, Charlie Jackson, Willie Jackson, Nathaniel Jackson, and Cordel Jackson, along with her son-in-law James Williams and daughter-in-law Sarah Jackson. She was also joyously welcomed by her siblings Mildred Frederick, Jimmie Lee Alexander, Annie Grace Monts, Estella Crawford, Parker Joseph, Jr., Leo Joseph, Earl Jessie Joseph, and Governor Joseph.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will continue to live on through her surviving children: Helen Williams of Rochester, New York, Emma Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia, Julia Tookes (Rev. Isaiah) of Oglethorpe, Georgia, and Reginald Jackson of Montezuma, Georgia. Her memory will also be cherished by her loving daughters-in-law: Mary Helen Jackson, Brenda Jackson, and Doris Jackson; her 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and her church family, including JoAnn Davis (Arthur) and Jacqueline Frederick; and her supportive neighbor and friend, Mrs. Patricia Council.
Marie Joseph Jackson’s life was a testimony of grace, strength, and love. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
