
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Josh Gibson Center, Buena Vista, Georgia. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Cemetery, Buena Vista, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Loni Denise Brightmon was born September 25, 1957, in Buena Vista, Georgia to Marie Fudge Brown and the late Ralph T. Brown Sr. She was educated in the public school system of Marion County and a 1975 graduate of Marion County High School. She furthered her education at Fort Valley State University receiving her bachelor’s degree in Education. At an early age, she joined Poplar Spring Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Buena Vista. Most recently, she enjoyed attending Love and Peace Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Annie Statham.
Denise, affectionately known as “Neicey” by family and friends, was an Educator. She began her teaching career in Forsyth, Georgia. After her first year of teaching, she returned home to share her gift of teaching in the Marion County School system. She retired from the Marion County School system in 2013. During her tenure with Marion County, she was a elementary/middle school instructor, middle school cheer coach, after-school program director, and middle school spelling bee coordinator. Denise was an avid reader and loved watching Serena Williams and others play tennis. Denise and/or Mrs. Brightman (as she is known by her students) will be forever remembered by family, friends and students as a loving, honest, compassionate, caring, and candid individual.
Preceding Denise in death was her husband, William “Billy” Brightmon and her best friend, Sharlene Evans.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her five children Keira Brightmon, Kasey Brightmon (Nicole Jones), Kala Brightmon Hill (Delvin), April Smith (Steven) all of Buena Vista, Georgia and Scharlita Evans of Warner Robins, Georgia; 11 grandchildren: Kaven Hill, Kyren Brightmon, Kyree Brightmon, Kason Hill, Kobe Hilll, Kenzi Hill, Karis Brightmon, P.J. Holt, Amelia Smith, Jakalya Smith, and Hannah Smith; one great granddaughter: Wynter Farley; a loving mother: Marie Fudge Brown, Buena Vista, Georgia.; four siblings: Brenda Steward (Micheal) of Portsmouth, Virginia; Ralph Brown Jr., Renee Glass and Kevin Brown (Jackie) all of Buena Vista, Georgia; a brother-in-law: Edward Brightmon, (Bernice) of Atlanta, Georgia; one uncle: Joseph Fudge (Deloris) of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends to include: Elaine Minion Brown, Sabrina Harvey and Camilla Cottle.
