The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church, Georgia Highway 26 West, Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Reverend Norris Harris, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such a high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Gloria was born January 25, 1942, to the late Walter Wright and Mary Harris Wright Harpe in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia. Gloria was educated in the Macon County Public School System whereas she was a 1959 graduate of D. F. Douglass High School. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian believers at the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church. She served faithfully as a sexton for the Davis Chapel Cemetery, Missionary Board, Stewardess Board and Trustee Board and served faithfully on every facet of the church she loved so well.
After many years of service, she retired as a devoted debtor for the Oglethorpe Benevolent Society under the administration of Henry Hall, Tommie Tookes and Rev. Isaiah Tookes. For several years she was employed as a machine operator with Manhattan Shirt Company.
She was united in holy matrimony to Jerry Drayton. Gloria was blessed with four children; one son, Phillip, preceded her in death. Survivors are three children and their spouses, Felicia Drayton-Hull (Andrew), Clinton Township, MI., Ray Anthony Wright, Three Way, TN and Steven Lamar Wright (Celia), Lorton, VA; three grandchildren, Whitley Wright, Dishea Neasley Jimenez, and Shaun Wright; four siblings, Linda Wright Cummings, Miami, Florida, Samuel J. Wright, Pontiac, MI., Herbert S. Wright (Brenda) Mt. Clemens, MI and Archie Wright (Phyllis), Oglethorpe, GA; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Family.
