Obituary for Gloria Blue

Gloria Blue, born on April 6, 1953, in Marion County Georgia to the parents of Dorothy and Richard Slaughter, Sr.

Gloria spent her formative years in Marion County, attending local schools and graduating from Marion County High School. Driven by a passion for education and a deep commitment to her community, she went on to further her studies at Fort Valley State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Gloria’s love for learning did not stop there—she continued her education completing a Master’s and an Education Specialist degree, a testament to her dedication and perseverance.

After college, Gloria returned to her roots and began a long and fulfilling career as a Pre-School Educator for the Tri-County Head Start Program. From there she went on to become a Kindergarten teacher at Marion County Elementary School later known as LK Moss Elementary School. For twenty-seven years, she inspired young minds and left a lasting impression on countless students. Her nurturing spirit, coupled with her commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, made her an exceptional teacher and mentor.

Gloria was a devoted wife to her husband, Ralph Blue. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and mutual support. Their partnership was a true testament to enduring love, and their home was a gathering place for family and friends alike.

As a mother, Gloria was a pillar of strength and love to her two children, Ralph Elliott Blue and Kristy Juenelle Blue. She instilled in them the values of kindness, hard work, and integrity. Her legacy continues through her six cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will remember her warmth, wisdom, and the joy she brought into their lives.

Gloria passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Dorothy and Richard Slaughter, Sr. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Ralph Blue.

Children: Ralph Blue (Shunta), Kristy Blue (Marcus Bell)

Grandchildren: Kori Blue, Marcus (Natasha) Shaw, Kwandon (Dominique) Blue, Andre Blue, Caleb Roberts and Camren Bell

Great grandchildren: Kayden Blue, Naomi Blue and Arlo Blue

Siblings:  Mary Ann Thornton, Richard Slaughter, Jr. (Angela), Larry Slaughter, Connie English (Danny), Lisa Slaughter

Brother and Sister-in-laws: Maude (Mary Alice) Blue, Claude Blue, Mary (Phillip) Perry, Yvonne (Richard) Brown, Lawrence (Virginia) Brown

And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Her family was her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to express her love and support.

Gloria was a long-standing member at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist church where she served on the Usher board faithfully since 1973. She loved serving at her church and had an even deeper love for her church family whom she spent countless Sunday’s worshipping and fellowshipping together.

As an alumni, Gloria was a dedicated member of the Fort Valley State University National Alumni Association “West Central Georgia Chapter”. In addition to that, she also served as secretary and treasurer for the Marion County High School Class of 1971.

Gloria’s life was one of service, compassion, and unwavering faith. She was a woman who believed in the power of education, the importance of family, and the strength of community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 109 Moody Road, Tazewell, Georgia with services beginning at 11AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Burial will follow at New Prospect Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Pineville Road, Buena Vista, Georgia.  The family invites all who knew and loved Gloria to join them in remembering and honoring her remarkable life.

Beloved: To God be the Glory!!
Gloria was my classmate and we rode the same school bus.
When I look at the attributes of Christ, I see my dear Sister Gloria. Christ was Humble… Gloria had a humble spirit that was so beautiful!!
Christ was meek, Gloria was very Meek & Mild.
But she was strong, she knew how to keep her power under control!!
She was very caring about mankind. I recently came down to comfort her during her father’s homecoming celebration, and she ended up comforting me due to my recent loss..
A beautiful Angel gone home!! To God be the Glory!!!
We will MISS her!!

Praying God’s perfect peace and comfort for my family. I loved and highly respected my sweet cousin. Though we didn’t see one another often, we knew how to reach out if ever there was a need. She will be missed but our Heavenly Father needed her more. Love y’all.

Mrs. Blue was an awesome lady. She was one of the few ladies in Buena Vista, GA who helped raised me. Mrs. Blue was always full of joy. She was always happy to see me and I was always happy to see her. She was my Kindergarten teacher as well as my Sunday School teacher at Mt. Olive Missionary Bapt. Church. Mrs. Blue will be deeply missed.🕊️

Ralph & Family & Siblings:
We are thinking of you all today and everyday with heartfelt sympathy and prayers! Gloria is gone from our sight, but never from our memories. She has gone from our touch but never from our hearts! We thank God that Gloria loved Ralph and accepted our crazy classmates as family. She invited us into her home quite frequently and fed us delicious food. We were always welcome. She played secretary for Ralph — accepted and took messages from all of our phone calls and never missed one of our class meetings or reunions! We are praying that God will keep you all; your faith will uphold you; and Gloria’s loving memories will heal your hearts!

Praying that you all find comfort, peace and hope during this time of bereavement! With our deepest sympathy from your Family of Classmates!!! We are here for you all and just a phone call away. We share your sadness in losing someone so special! Because we care, we are wishing you all the blessings of peace and the comfort of warm memories now and in the future. We hope somehow you all can feel all that our hearts want to say. Therefore, we hope y’all know how much caring goes out to you!!!

Heartfelt Condolences on the Passing of Mrs. Gloria Blue

Dear Mr. Ralph Blue Sr., Christy, Ralph Blue Jr., and the Entire Blue and Slaughter Families,

I am writing to extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mrs. Gloria Blue, a woman whose grace, elegance, and dignity were truly unparalleled. For as long as I have known her, Mrs. Gloria has been a beacon of class and distinction, embodying everything that is beautiful in both spirit and character.

From a young age, I admired Mrs. Gloria for the way she carried herself with such poise and refinement. She was not just a role model but a profound source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. As I grew older, my respect and admiration for her only deepened. I had the honor of witnessing her unwavering kindness, her gentle heart, and her enduring love for everyone around her.

Marion County and its surrounding areas have indeed lost an extraordinary soul. Mrs. Gloria was more than just a remarkable woman; she was a pillar of our community, a presence that brought comfort, warmth, and joy wherever she went. Her smile—always radiant and sincere—had the unique ability to lift the spirits of those around her, and her warm embraces provided solace in times of need. She was often the first to offer her support, encouraging others to pursue their aspirations with a quiet yet powerful strength that only she could embody.

While A&R Barbecue may never be the same without Mrs. Gloria’s presence, I am certain that her spirit, love, and unwavering dedication will continue to live on in each of you. Christy, you are a beautiful reflection of your mother’s grace and elegance. Ralph Jr., please know that her love for you is eternal, and it will continue to guide and protect you. Mr. Ralph Blue Sr., the legacy Mrs. Gloria leaves behind is one of love, kindness, and unwavering support—a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we mourn the loss of such an astounding woman, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her beloved parents, the late Mr. Richard and Mrs. Dorothy Slaughter, and resting in the loving arms of the Lord.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this incredibly difficult time. Mrs. Gloria Blue will never be forgotten, and her memory will be cherished by all whose lives she touched.

With heartfelt sympathy and love,

Angela Tymes Zarwolo

The Mt. Olive Baptist Church was saddened to learn the passing of our great member, Usher, Sunday School teacher and activity planner! Sis Blue as we called her at church will be and already missed dearly ! The love of church was obvious by all of us! Sis Blue would always make her Sunday at church speaking to all of us with the most beautiful smile! Family, Ralph and Children, we loved Sis Blue so dearly that it has made an impact on all in the church that when we look in the corner where she would sit on her post as an usher when time to sit from her duties at the door, we will all have a heavy heart! Sis Blue was the apple 🍎 of all of us at Mt. Olive Baptist! We loved u dearly, Pastor Oglesby and First Lady Oglesby and all your sisters and brothers in christ!

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs Blue. She did her student teaching at Stewart County High and I was one of her students. Later, I had the opportunity to work with her in the Marion County School System. She proudly expressed to others that I was once her student. From my first encounter with her and throughout the years working together I must say that she was heaven sent, an angel with a loving touch . To the family and community, continue to tell her story by doing this she will be with you until the last person that knew her pass away. Indeed we had an angel among us.

Sending condolences to the Blue family in the lost of a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin. Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different path's along the way, we all are meant to learn some things but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place for greater than we know, for some, the journey's quicker, for some, the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward and find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord.
