
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., December 6, 2017, at First United Holiness Church, 325 Engram Street, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Highway 26, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Emma was born in Roberta, Georgia on June 6, 1928 to the late Janie B. Williams and Roosevelt Schofield. She was preceded in death by one son, Henry Cephus; three siblings, Leola Mitchell Cisro Schofield, Willie B. Schofield; a daughter-in-law, Linda Cephus; and son-in-law, Ira Davis, Sr. She was educated through the local church school in the Grangeville Community. She was employed with Gold King as a Machine Operator. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Willie Davis Cephus.
Emma was a very caring person who enjoyed making people laugh. Her personality was very warm and inviting. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and, most of all, caring for her family.
Emma leaves to cherish her memories: seven children, Willie Mae Cephus, Greensboro, North Carolina, Elzie Cephus, Sr., Jimmy Cephus (Hazel), Mary Emma Davis, Joseph Cephus, Cora Cephus, all of Montezuma, Georgia, and Calvin Cephus (Anginette), Perry, Georgia; twenty grandchildren, Sammie Cephus (Tomecca), whom she reared as her own, Pamela Allen, Zelda Ashmon (Nathaniel), Elzie Cephus Jr., Travis Cephus (Romona), Lorenzé Cephus, Crystal Johnson (Pete), Kimberly Davis, Evita Glover (Kelvin), Nickolas Harris, Devorris Harris (Shannett), Calvin Cephus Jr. Sytoria L. Cephus, April L. Cephus, Tamaran D. Hannor, Kierra Cephus, Treyvon L. Cephus, Kimora Cephus, Brianna L. Cephus, and Jalen C. Cephus; eighteen great grandchildren; seven siblings, Luevurne Perkins, Montezuma, Georgia, Walter B. Schofield (Artie), Jerry Schofield (Barbara), both of Jacksonville, Florida, Roosevelt Schofield (Denise), Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; Minnie Smith, Janie Beal (Millard), all of Montezuma, Georgia and Johnny Schofield (Darlene), Reno, Nevada; sister-in- law Helen Schofield; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including a dear friend, Lois “We Baby” Terry.
A special thanks to Rev. Alfred Wynn, Johnnie Tookes (Nathaniel), Coast to Coast Transportation (“Her ride” as Mrs. Emma would say), Source Care Home Health, her caregiver, Tammy Collier, Shelia Schofield who managed to put a smile on her face when she walks in the room calling out “Old Lady”, and the many people who took part in her everyday care and happiness.
