In Loving Memory of Mrs. Edna Baker Champion

It is with heavy hearts that we gather today to celebrate the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Mrs. Edna Baker Champion —a woman of grace, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her community. While her wings were ready to take flight, our hearts were not prepared to let go of such a treasured soul.

Mrs. Edna Baker Champion was more than an educator—she was a beacon of light, a nurturer of dreams, and a pillar of strength for all who were blessed to know her. For decades, she dedicated herself to shaping young minds at Marion County Elementary School, where she instilled not only knowledge but also kindness, confidence, and integrity. Though she may not have been everyone’s teacher by assignment, she was a teacher to all by heart. Whether it was a warm smile in the hallways or a gentle inquiry about how a student’s day was going, Miss Baker Champion had an uncanny ability to make each child feel seen, valued, and uplifted. She always saw something positive in everyone.

Her impact stretched far beyond the classroom walls. A trailblazer in her own right, Mrs. Baker Champion opened doors and paved paths for countless educators who followed in her footsteps. She set an example of humility, grace, and service, always eager to lend a helping hand not only in school but throughout the community. Whether in church, at local events, or within her neighborhood, she carried herself with dignity, faith, and a heart full of generosity.

To many, Mrs. Edna Baker Champion was more than a teacher. She was a second mother, a mentor, and a guiding light. She possessed a sincerity that touched every soul she encountered. She believed in people before they even believed in themselves, offering unwavering support and encouragement at every turn.

She was a woman who embodied love and faith in all aspects of her life. Her love for God shined through in her words and actions, making her a source of comfort and strength for those around her. She lived a life of purpose, serving not only as an educator but as a matriarch of the community, a figure of respect, and a friend to many.

Though we grieve her absence, we take solace in the fact that her influence lives on in the countless lives she touched. The lessons she imparted, the kindness she extended, and the love she shared will continue to ripple through generations to come.

Mrs. Edna Baker Champion, your departure leaves an irreplaceable void, but your legacy remains eternal. You were a gift to this world, and while we may shed tears in your absence, we also rejoice in the profound impact you made.

Rest peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord, Mrs. Edna Baker Champion. You were truly one of a kind, and you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

With love, gratitude, and endless remembrance,

Donna, Deidre, and Dennis, you will always have your mother Mrs. Edna Baker Champion with you. She resides in your hearts, filling them with love and cherished memories. May her guiding spirit bring you comfort, strength, and the warmth of her everlasting embrace.

On behalf of the Crumbley family we offer our heartfelt condolences to the Baker and Champion families. Our hearts are heavy as we learn of the passing of Mother Edna. She was a blessing and a beacon of light, hope and strength for the community of Buena Vista.

Many of us spent many years as her students at Marion County Elementary School. She was the BEST first grade teacher. We had the opportunity to spend days at her home when my mom and dad would drop by.

We’re praying for you all today but please find joy in knowing that Mrs Edna lived a beautiful life and touched so so many people. May her legacy live forever through her beautiful children and grandchildren. We love you all.

Mrs Baker Champion was a jewel
among many . I worked with her at Marion County Elementary. She along with Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Reese mentored me in my early years of teaching that lead to a bond of love and friendship. She poured into the students and community. May her story be told forever until the last one that knew her is gone. Rest well thy Good and Faithful Servant.

To the family of Mrs Edna Baker-Champion I was so sorry to of the passing of my cousin, who always called me First Lady. May she rest in peace. Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different path's along the way, we all are meant to learn some things but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place for greater than we know, for some, the journey's quicker, for some, the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward and find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord.
