The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Faith Memorial C.M.E. Church, Brooks Road, Ideal, Georgia. Burial with military honors at Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Eddie Lewis Taylor was born in Macon County, GA on November 25, 1949 to the late Rosa Ogburn Respert Taylor and the late Hillman Taylor. Eddie Lewis was a 1968 graduate of the historic D.F. Douglass High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and Reserves and received Honorary Discharge. He received his Associate degree in Business Administration from Massey Business College. He also earned his barber certification. He was a businessman and held property management positions at multi-complex properties and owned his limousine company. Eddie loved the Lord and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Eddie was an Artist – and displayed it in his love, passion and skills through singing, playing instruments and art work. He used his artistic mind and talent and created many masterpieces.
Eddie had charisma, love to dress nice and sport his hats. He used his charisma to wed in holy matrimony the love of his life Mattie Harris Taylor and this union was blessed with 45 years of marriage.
He was blessed to be the father of two lovely daughters: Angela Taylor-Maddox (Marty) of Atlanta, GA and Coyette Jackson of Newnan, GA.
Eddie was sixth of twelve siblings, four of which preceded him in death: Ruben Respert, Willie Lee Respert, Charlie Respert and Lester Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his loving mother-in-law, Gussie Harris, sister-in-law Bertha Spencer and brothers in-law Charlie Harris and Cleveland Harris.
