The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at St. James C.M.E. Church, 215 Railroad Street, Marshallville, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Colonel Felton Cemetery, 504 South Street, Marshallville, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such a high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Clarence Rice, fondly known as “Chuckie/Chuck”, was born on August 11, 1951, to the late Roy and Mary Lizzie Visher Rice in Marshallville, Georgia. He was educated in the Macon County School System at D.F. Douglass High School. In 1971 he enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country with honor and distinction, and after years of service he was Honorably Discharged. He later worked and retired with 20 plus years from the Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley, Georgia.
Chuck was the bright light who lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be forever remembered for his generous heart and always helping those in need. He enjoyed playing pool, the lottery, and solitaire. He was also fond of watching wrestling and the TV show “In the Heat of the Night”.
The concluding chapter in Chuck’s Book of Life was penned on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Leroy Rice and Claude Rice.
In 1987, two hearts became one when Chuck married the love of his life Shirley H. Rice. To this union, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter who was the joy of his life—LaJaquan “Key” Rice Wheeler (George) of Phenix City, Alabama. He was also the father to Larry Barner Jr. (Iris) of Macon, Georgia; Levar Rice of Warner Robins, Georgia; Jamaal Rice (Latoya) of Oglethorpe, Georgia; Deon Barner of Marshallville, Georgia; and Tavesha Preston of Ideal, Georgia. Grandchildren: Jordyn Nichole Wheeler, Larry Barner III (Carmen), Derrick Barner, Isaiah Barner, Jamaal Rice II, Eric Rice, Jamaiya Rice, Madison Rice, Jholei Rice, Kha’Madj Mitchell, Kha’Moria Mitchell, Carliyah Ford, Chase Ford, Chasity Ford, Elijah Barner, Kourtnie Barner, Dorian Barner and Deontre’ Barnes. Great grandchildren Zoe and Zaharia Barner. God children: Tracy Rice, Alisha Solomon and Jerdarrius Nedd. Five brothers and their spouses: Samuel Rice (Lois), Julius Rice (Nettie), John Henry Rice (Carolyn) of Marshallville, Georgia. Charlie Rice of Warner Robins, Georgia and Bennie Rice of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A devoted Sister-in-Law—Sandra Battle. Loving and devoted friends: Elizabeth Solomon, Julia Solomon, Vernon McDougald, Anthony Hooks, Larry Coats, Antonio Rice, and his Blue Bird Family. A loving niece—Katrina Cooper, a loving nephew, James Stinson. A host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
