Charlie James Johnson was born on March 14, 1955, in Americus, Georgia, to the late Essie W. Taylor-Johnson and Joseph “Joe” Johnson. On the morning of August 18, 2025, Charlie peacefully entered his eternal rest.
At an early age, Charlie began his walk with Christ at Inspirational Church by Faith under the leadership of his uncle, the late Bishop John T. Taylor. Later in life, he continued his spiritual journey and became a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Americus.
Charlie was educated in the Americus school system and began his career as a groundskeeper at Georgia Southwestern State (now Georgia Southwestern State University). For more than thirty years, he took great pride in beautifying the campus grounds. After many years of dedicated service, Charlie’s health began to decline, and he made the decision to retire.
