Thomas Frank Jones, age 89, passed on  December 5, 2020.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Davis Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Mr. Thomas Frank Jones, affectionately known as “Nig,” son of the late Mr.  Malachi and Mrs. Lula Tookes Jones was born in Macon County on November 15, 1931. He departed this life December 5, 2020 in Augusta, GA at the home of his eldest daughter.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Verneice Gwendolyn Wiggins.  To this union five children were born. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verneice W. Jones; son, Thomas Frank Jones Jr.; four brothers, Malachi Jones Jr., Fred Jones, Willie Jones Sr., and Clyde Jones; and two sisters, Ella Taylor and Pearlie Richardson.

He leaves to mourn three daughters, Vernell (Michael) Mims of Augusta, GA; Sharon (Gregg) Ingram of Stone Mountain, GA; Jacqueline (James Sr.) Perry of Hampton, GA; and one son, Kyle Lewis (Cassandra) Jones, Sr. of Jonesboro, GA; daughter-in-law, Beverly B. Jones of Americus, GA; one sister, Mrs. Annie Neal Suggs of Macon, GA; three sister-in-laws; Mrs. Josephine (Albert) Cooper of Americus, GA; Mrs. Mattie (Amos) Edge of Montgomery, AL and Ms. Audrey Wiggins of Stone Mountain, GA; eight grandchildren, Jarvis Treval (Samantha) Jones of Stockbridge, Le’Andra Verneice Jones, James Moses Perry Jr. and Jaylen Thomas Perry of Hampton, GA, Shandria Amira Jones of Riverdale, GA, Kyle Lewis Jones Jr. of College Park, GA; Kimathi Jones of Jonesboro, GA and Ashlee Gregori Ingram of Stone Mountain, GA; four great grandchildren Kenneth, Kyla, Luna and Stella Jones.  One-step grand-daughter Michelle Mims and two step grand-children, Michaela and Ilyan Mims of Augusta.  A host of phenomenal nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.   A stellar nephew, Ray Jones of Ellaville, GA; faithful friends Mr. Booker Jones of Americus, GA; Deacon Charles Williams of Ellaville, GA and Mr. J. C. Nelson of Ideal, GA.  

​Thomescina Vanae Sims, age 49, passed on December 1, 2020.

Services will be held 12:00 P.M., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum, 496 Cemetery  Road,  Andersonville, Georgia.

Thomescina Vanae Kendrick Sims was born in Macon County, Georgia to Pearlie Kendrick and the late Rev. Charlie Lee Kendrick. She was preceded in death her brother Mickey. She was educated in public school system of Cobb County and was a graduate of PebbleBrook High School.  Thomescina  served her country proudly in the United States Army. While in the service and after she furthered her education earning a Bachelor Degree. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.  She was also a member of Greater Elizabeth Missionary Baptist, Atlanta, Georgia.  On July 31, 1999, two hearts became one when Thomescina married the love of her life Rudolph Sims VI.  She was employed as a Hotel Manager for the Extended Stay Chains.

Freddie James Haugabook was born on March 21, 1953 to the late Willie B. Haugabook and the late Eddie Ruth “Honey” Felder Haugabook. Two brothers, Willie H. Haugabook and Eric Haugabook, one sister-in-law, Wilmotine Haugabook, and one nephew, Roderick McKenzie preceded him in death.  

He was educated in the public school system of Macon County and was a 1971 graduate of the Historic D. F. Douglass High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Freddie was a phenomenal football player while in high school.  He attended the former Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley, Georgia. 

At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined Brown Chapel Baptist Church, in Montezuma, Georgia. Freddie later joined the membership of Saving Grace Christian Church, Riverdale, Georgia under the leadership of Pastor Jarrod Haugabook where he served as a Deacon. He was an upright Christian man that loved the Lord. He was the epitome of dedication and a great supporter of every facet of the church that he loved so well. “Servant of God well done”

He was employed with General Motor Company and worked various positions and after 32 years of dedicated services he retired in 2008. 

Freddie was well known for his heartfelt concern and love for others, often putting others before himself. He knew no strangers, once he met you, he never forgot you. He poured out his love unselfishly to his family and friends. His family was his pride and joy. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for you for his love was unconditional. 

On Wednesday, December 2, 2020 Deacon Freddie James Haugabook departed his life. “A precious one from us is gone; a voice we love is still, a place is vacant in our hearts, that can nevermore be filled.”

He leaves a legacy of love and heartfelt memories to his two daughters, Jaimeicia Haugabook of Atlanta, GA, and Brittany Haugabook and family of Decatur, GA; one loving granddaughter, Asia Phillips of Atlanta, GA; one Goddaughter, Ajsa Moone, Duluth, GA; six siblings, Minister Bettye Mathis of Ellenwood, GA, Marianne Curry (Russell) of Stockbridge, GA, Carolyn Maloy (Abner) of Montezuma, GA, Clara McKenzie (DeVaughn) of Montezuma, GA, Doris Haugabook of Marshallville, GA and Jerome Haugabook of Atlanta, GA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

​Dudley Gary, age 71, passed on December 1, 2020 at his residence.

Dudley Gary, known as “Rabbit,” by family and friends was born February 4, 1949 to Willie Ruth Moffett Gary and James Gary. He was raised by his grandparents Queen & Dan Gary and two aunts  Clara Daniels and Queen Gary. He attended the public school system of Sumter County graduating from North East High School in Americus, Georgia. Following school he enlisted in the United States Army. While in the army he obtained a degree in Masonry (Construction work). He joined New St. Paul at an early age. He then joined St. John A.M.E. Church where he served and the board as a steward and on the finance committee.  He later met the love of his life Shirley Ann Sheppard. He and Shirley were married on November 17, 1973 and to this union three children were born Tiffany, Shaun, and Shannon. He was employed with Reeves Construction until he established his own construction company Gary’s Construction. He enjoyed sitting round with family and friend. He also enjoyed cooking soul food. He was a member of the American Legion Lodge No. 558.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Ruth and James Gary; grandparents, Dan and Queen Gary; his wife, Shirley Ann Sheppard Gary; son, Shaun Gary; aunts, Eva Gary and Ruby Lee Woods; uncles, Dudley Gary, Dan Gary Jr. and Henry Gary; devoted cousins,  Rickey Daniels and Henry Woods.

​Mollie "Mellee" Murray Best, age 76, passed on November 25, 2020 at Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.

Mrs. Mollie (Mellee) Murray Best, the daughter of the late Jessie Murray and Ms. Carrie Lee (Murray) Wilson was born February 23, 1944 in Buena Vista, Georgia. She grew up in Marion County and graduated from Buena Vista High School, afterwards relocating to Brooklyn, New York.  She attended Brooklyn CUNY City College. In 1975 she was joined together in marriage to the late Sgt. Cornell Best of Sumter, South Carolina. At an early age, she accepted Christ in her life and study at various bible institutions and was baptized as a Jehovah Witness, later she joined the Church of Christ.

Mollie worked in banking and finance. She retired from The East New York Saving Bank and The Bank of New York, Wall Street, Merrill Lynch Division. After returning to Marion County, she worked at the Marion County Sheriff Office, and she later became the care taker of Ms. Hattye Louise Brown whom she call  her other mama. Mollie loved being of service to anyone who desired help. She served as a secretary on the West Central Community Action Council and The Taylor County Coalition of Black Women.

Mrs. Mollie Best leaves to mourn two sons, Anthony Carlton Murray, and Derrick Remo (Aretha) Murray of Long Island New York; one grandchild, Tia Nicole Murray; two great grandsons, Jayden and JoJo of New York; four siblings, Rebecca Murray, Far Rockaway, New York, John Henry Murray, Buena Vista, Georgia, Everett Murray, Florida, and retired Sgt. Alzonia Wilson Huntsville, Alabama; sister-in-law, Cupid Dean Murray; she leaves a host of  nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Emmett, James Andrew, Willie Stanford Murray Walter Murray and Jessie Sales; and grandson Shamel Robinson.

Chauncey Goodwin, age 25, passed on November 25, 2020 in Americus, Georgia.

Chauncey Narrod Goodwin, affectionately known as "Chaunt," was born on November 25, 1995 in Americus, Georgia to Ira Wendell Goodwin and the late Jorvis Williams. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert Williams, Clydia Lee Brown, and Lonnie Goodwin Sr. He was educated in the public school of Sumter County.  Chauncey worked as a Solar Panel Installer.

​Audrey Gelonda Woolfork, age 50, passed on November 27, 2020 at her residence.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 2, 2020 on the lawn of First Salem Baptist Church, and burial will follow in Champ Waters Cemetery, both located at 191 Twin Church Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

Ms. Audrey Gelonda Woolfork was born on March 13, 1970 to the late Alonzo Jr. and Inez Mann Woolfork in Montezuma, Georgia.  Audrey was a faithful member of First Salem Baptist Church  where she sang in the church choir and served in many other ministries.  She was a proud graduate of the Almighty D.F. Douglass High School Class of 1989.  Audrey was employed as a nurse at Montezuma Health and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma, Georgia. 

Audrey had many nicknames, such as Gal, “Piccolo Player,” Sassy #2, and “Moosie” just to name a few. She had a zest for life and enjoyed its many aspects. She loved to dance, play cards, and hang out with her family, friends and co-workers.  On Friday, November 27, 2020, in the comfort of her home, Audrey traded the fun and games, for eternal glory, where she will no longer experience suffering, stress, nor pain. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo Woolfork Jr. and Inez Mann Woolfork and three siblings: Lonnie Woolfork Sr., Jerome Felton, and Gladys Felton.
