Mr. Joseph Sales, Sr. age 95, 112 Church Street, Buena Vista, Georgia passed on October 11, 2022, at his home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Moody Road, Buena Vista, Georgia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such as shoes with high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
 
Mr. Sales as born March 28, 1927 in Marion County, Georgia to the late Jasper Sales and Maggie Walton Sales.  He was educated in the public school system of Marion County, Georgia.  At the age of 65 he retired from GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation).

Survivors are a beloved wife, Mrs. Bertha Swans Sales, Buena Vista, Georgia; one child preceded him in death, Anniester Sales Wright; Children Joseph Sales Jr. (Louise), Ralph Sales (Sherry), Ellen Sales Battle, Johnny Sales (Sandy)  and Jermaine Sales (Kim), Carmen Swans, Zelma Ford, Casey Jones, Jr., Diane Fulks and Masey Jones; Three siblings, Sallie Dunning, Macon, GA, Benny Sales (Justine) and Officer Ray Sales (Annie), all of Buena Vista, Georgia; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Champ Waters Cemetery, 191 Twin Churches Road, Montezuma, Georgia.

He is survived by his parents, Demar Thompson Sr. and Darquida Lillard; grandparents, Tony Thompson Sr., Paulette Thompson,  Bridgette Nolton, Jessie Frank Nolton,  Mattie Lillard,  John  Lillard Sr.; great grandparents  Nettie Mae Melvin, Mattie Burton; siblings, D’Hyani Lillard, KaHari Lillard, Zoe’ Kimbriel Howard, Demar Thompson Jr.; aunts/uncles, Kowanna Lillard, John Lillard Jr., Tavares Peeples, Kimberly, Jackson, Tramell Peeples (Zaikia), Travis Peeples, Tony Thompson Jr., Marcus Thompson, Brittany Thompson and a host of  other relatives.

The graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Taylor Cemetery, Paynebottom Community, Ellaville, Georgia.

Shelyn was born January 27, 1954, in Macon County, Georgia to the late Aliene  Harpe Fulks and the Elzie Fulks Sr. She was reared by her grandparents the late Homer and Ora Mae Harpe of Ideal, Georgia.  She acquired her education in the public school system of Macon County whereas she attended the historic Ideal Elementary School and was a graduate of D.F. Douglass High School.  After many years of dedicated service she retired from Blue Bird Body Company as a Secretary. Later she worked as a Secretary for Habitat of Americus, Tyson Food and Gold King. She was united in holy matrimony  to  the late Will Dennis. 
 
She leaves to cherish her memories to her two children, Trevis Harpe, Ideal, Georgia, Stephanie Harpe Mclendon (Keith), Montezuma, Georgia; four grandchildren, Kaleah Harris, Aukeeveous Mclendon, Akeirah Harpe, Kelan Harpe, great granddaughter, Ariyah Fudge; a father, Elzie Fulks Sr. Ideal, Georgia; five siblings, Hilda Fulks, Fort Valley, Georgia, Carrie Lockett (Wilfred), Ideal, Georgia Malcolm Fulks (Melinda), Clayton County, Georgia, Elzie Fulks Jr. (Joann), Lithonia, Georgia, Cathy Fulks Smith (Donnson), Montezuma, Georgia;  aunts, Betty Harpe, Vera Harpe, both of Ideal, Georgia (who were raised as her sisters) Barbara Harpe, Oglethorpe, Georgia; Uncle, Eddie C. Harpe, Raleigh, NC; great aunt, Alice Duncan, Oglethorpe, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. ​

Rev. Governor Gibson, age 82, passed on October 1, 2022.

A wake will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Corinth Baptist Church, State Route 127 West, Garden Valley, Georgia.

Reverend Governor “LC” Gibson, a resident of Montezuma, GA, was born on Nov. 27, 1939, in Donalsonville, GA.. He passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Reverend Gibson was preceded in death by his parents Governor Gibson, Sr. and Lucille Gibson, and his three siblings: Sidney Gibson, Kelly Mae Cleveland and Larich Henry. Rev. Gibson accepted Christ at an early age and was always a devoted church member. Rev. Gibson attended Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida. During his tenth and eleventh grades at Lincoln he was drum major. He was also known for his artistic ability to draw, paint, and sing melodious tunes as a member of an a capella men’s group formed in high school.

In 1968 he moved to Macon, GA and worked at The Macon Medical Center. While working at the hospital he attended Fort Valley State University. Later he became an employee of The Atlanta Light and Gas Company. He moved to Montezuma, GA and worked there until his retirement. He continued after retirement to use his expertise and skills to help people in the community.

Reverend Gibson was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1990 under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Walter L. Glover, Jr. He was the senior pastor at Corinth, Baptist Church and had served as senior pastor at New Pine Level, Union Grove, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Churches.

Rev. Gibson was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Cherishing the beautiful memories of his life are two daughters and one son: Antoine Rene′e Gibson of Stone Mountain, GA, Gena Gibson of Midway, FL, and Governor Dondre′ Gibson of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren: Brittany Roberts of Savannah, GA, Christopher D. Gibson and Cory D. Gibson of Dallas TX, Kailyn N. Gibson of Stone Mountain, GA, Cartezs Matthews, and Shakira Green of Midway, FL; six great-grandchildren; his niece who grew up with him as a sister, Rev. Sandra Hobbs Austin (Rev. William) of Milford, DE; nieces Debbie Oliver of Tallahassee, Fl, Deleietrice Henry of Dallas, TX, and Linda Gibson of Tallahassee, FL; nephews: Patrick Gibson, Cornet Gibson, Odis Henry, Jr., and Eric Henry of Tallahassee, FL; cousins, Ulysses “Butch” Hopkins of Columbia, SC, and Almeta Rodgers of Donalsonville, GA, Charles Rambo of Atlanta, GA; a beloved brother-in-law, Odis Henry, Sr. of Tallahassee, FL; a close friend since childhood, Ralph Monroe of Tallahassee, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Minnie Jesse Reid was the fourth child of ten children born on January 7, 1944, in Canton, Georgia to the late Robert L. Pye, Sr. and Mable Geneva Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death. The family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1947 where Minnie attended Knoxville Public Schools graduating from Austin High School where she majored in Cosmetology.

Minnie and her family moved to Hartford, CT in 1966 where she worked for Mass Mutual Insurance Company for over twenty years. She and her family relocated to her husband’s hometown of Americus, GA in 1989. She worked at Wal-mart for fifteen years then retired. Minnie had a servant's heart always willing to serve. She was a faithful member of Union Tabernacle Baptist Church for years serving as a kitchen helper. She was a praying woman and worshipper. She truly loved the Lord. She was a very loving, kind and a caring person. She was family oriented and loved them. She will be truly missed by family and friends. Minnie was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Robert Pye, and one sister, Priscilla Taylor.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, General Reid;
 son, Carl Reid; daughter, Vatina Reid-Williams; two brothers, Joe Pye and Edmond Pye; four sisters, Maggie Cherry, Sylvia Wyatt, Darlene Delee (Anthony) and Mary Giles; Four grandchildren, Marquise Reid, Danyel Reid, Raven Reid, Mekelle Reid and four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
