Harold Devaughn Hankerson, Sr., affectionately known to many as “Bunky” and “Hank” was born on December 25, 1948, to the late Lorenzo and Leola Hankerson. At the age of 77, Harold passed away on August 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, service, and cherished memories.

Harold was a proud graduate of D. F. Douglass High School, Class of 1967. He continued his education at Fort Valley State University. He later proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, demonstrating the dedication and commitment that were an important part of his life.

Harold was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Lovingly known as “Bunky,” he will be remembered for his infectious laugh, smooth jokes, laid-back spirit, and generous heart. He had a gift for making people smile and could turn almost any moment into a good time. “Bunky” was the life of the party.

There was never a day he wasn’t sharing a story, or talking a little trash about the Falcons, Braves, Bulldogs, or Hawks. “Hank” was just that type of guy you wanted to be around. He brought a special kind of joy wherever he went. His quick wit, carefree nature, and unmistakable laugh made him someone people simply loved being around.

We will miss his laughter, his humor, and his free spirit, but most of all, we will miss the happiness he brought into our lives. His memory will live on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, and the hearts of all who loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory with his two children, Harold Devaughn Hankerson, Jr. (Lazetta) and Stacey Monique Hankerson-Forsyth (Juan); his ex-wife, Linda Kleckley Hankerson; and his five grandchildren, Simone Hankerson, Hailey Hankerson, Harold Hankerson, III (Trey), Timberly Mathis, and Timothy Mathis (TJ).

He is also lovingly remembered by his three sisters, Anna Hankerson Thornton, Loretta Hankerson Bradley, and Gwendolyn Hankerson Willis (Julius Mack, Sr.); two nieces, Dana Hankerson Dyson (Benjamin) and Kenyatta Bradley Francis (Rio); and four nephews, Darron Thornton, Edwin Hankerson (Joy), Julius Mack Willis, Jr. (April), and James Willis.

Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin Hankerson and Larry Hankerson.

His memory will also be cherished by a host of extended family members, relatives, great nieces/nephews and friendswho were blessed to know and love him.

Though he has departed this life, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

A private burial will be held at Andersonville National Cemetery Rostrum, Andersonville, GA.
