Mrs. Sarah Maxie Washington Tookes, age 90, 103 Gene Wilburn Road, Ideal, Georgia passed Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Phoebe Sumter Hospital, Americus, Georgia.
 
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Lula Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Highway 26, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
Mrs. Sarah Maxie Washington Tookes, the daughter of the late Willie and Maxie Washingon, was born April 18, 1927 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia. She was the fourth of nine siblings and six preceded her in death: John Henry Washington, Fred Washington, Clifford “Some Buddy” Washington, Dorothy Jones, Bernice McDonald and Georgia “Sue” Washington. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she attended the historic Flint River Farm School. On January 23, 1943, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Leroy Tookes and to this union they were blessed with six children. Two preceded her in death: Mary Alice Daniel and Barbara Jean Tookes. 
 
On Tuesday, May 9, 2017 she departed this life. Sarah, also known as “Jill” to many, worked for Moones B. Peterson Book Bindery in New York, New York for many years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star Queen of Sheba Chapter #32 of Brooklyn, New York.  After residing in New York for 38 years, Sarah and Leroy returned to their native home of Georgia.  They had a home built in Ideal, Georgia.
 
Sarah was an Assistant Poll Manager of Ideal, Georgia, Secretary of the Retired Teachers Association, she also dedicated time to other non-profit organizations and was a very active participant with the PTA.  She joined the Primitive Baptist Association and was an active, dedicated member of Lula Chapel Primitive Baptist Church until her death.
 
Sarah was loved and respected by many.  She was the matriarch of this family.  She had values instilled in her that no other could touch.  She was the smallest but strongest woman we have ever known. If she had it, you had it.  To know her was to love her. No one was a stranger, she welcomed all.
 
She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, two loving sons, Luther Tookes (Mishonda), Lithonia, Georgia, Samuel Leroy Tookes, Brooklyn, New York, two loving daughter, Linda Tookes, Ideal, Georgia, Kim Marie Tookes, Columbus, Georgia; one brother, Robert Washington (Lola) and one sister, Lula Norris, all of Brooklyn, New York;  one sister-in-law, Alice Duncan, Oglethorpe, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, one of which she raised as her own, Tiffany Tookes Spencer (Derek), sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Aldine Hartage, age 84, 158 Green Duck Road, Leslie, Georgia passed May 9, 2017 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, Americus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Zion Hope Baptist Church, 1681 US Hwy 19 South, Americus, Georgia. Reverend George Monts, Jr. is pastor.  Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia.

Aldine Hartage was born in Ellaville, Schley County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Ernest Hartage and Lizzie Snow Hamilton Hartage. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Emma Lee Davenport, Alfonia Hartage, and a grandson Quentin Lamarr Wilson, Jr. He was educated in public school system of Sumter County. He worked for the Sumter County Board of Education in the Maintenance Department. He also was employed with the Norton Company in Memphis, Tennessee as a stocker.

Aldine was joined in holy matrimony to Emma Lue Smith Hartage and to this union they were blessed with one daughter. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savoir and joined the band of Christian believers at the Zion Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 45 years Emma Lue Hartage, Leslie, Georgia; one daughter Tamika Hartage, five grandchildren, Marvin Tyrell Johnson, Jr., A’Casia LaShae Hartage, Makayla Sharice Hartage, Jayden Lamarr Hartage, and Haley Quentavia Hartage, all of Leslie, Georgia; one sister, Ruby Jean Hodges, Americus, Georgia; and a host of nieces, including one devoted niece, Lizzie Mae Hodges, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Deacon Tommie J. Tookes, Sr.

Deacon Tommie J. Tookes, Sr. passed on May 8, 2017 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

A wake service will be held on 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2017 at Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Railroad Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday May 20, 2017 at Jehovah Baptist Church, 201 Chatham Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Burial will follow with military honors at the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Tommie James Tookes was born on May 27, 1929 in Oglethorpe, Georgia.  He was the son and youngest child of the late Lonnie Tookes and Pearl Haugabrooks Tookes. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Rosa Lee English, Aaron English, Alexander Tookes, Eddie Lee Tookes, Ouida Jordan, and C. J. Tookes.
 
He was educated in the public school system of Macon County and graduated from the historic Macon County Training High School in Montezuma, Georgia. Later on, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from November 14, 1947 through November 21, 1951.

On December 25, 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart,the late Cora Dean English, who preceded him in death. To this union, six children were born: five sons and one daughter - Tommie J. Tookes, Jr., Alfred J. Tookes, Charles B. Tookes, Wilbert L. Tookes, Edward J. Tookes, and Beverly J. Tookes. He was preceded in death by sons, Tommie Jr., Wilbert and Edward.

He was an ordained deacon who visited many denominational churches for 63 years; a member and Deacon of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church of Oglethorpe, Georgia; Deacon of Fort Valley Chapel Primitive Baptist Church of Fort Valley, Georgia; and a board member of the Youth Ministry for the Antioch Primitive Baptist Association. Also, he worked diligently with the Oglethorpe Benevolent Society, Inc. since it was founded in 1957 in many capacities; he held the position of President. He worked at Robins Air Force Base for over 30 years and he has served as the first African American head of Logistics. He retired from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as Chief of the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (D.R.M.O.)in Albany, Georgia after 35 years of Department of Defense (DoD) civil service. In addition, he has served as a state and federal tax consultant and owner of OK Barber Shop being a master barber with over 60 years of experience in Montezuma, Georgia.

In 1993, he married Minnie Carter, who preceded him in death, and enjoyed an additional 22 years of marriage. Early Monday morning, May 8, 2017, the Lord said “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the everlasting joy of the Lord”.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred J. (Annie Ruth) Tookes, Augusta, Georgia; Charles B. (Paula) Tookes, Duluth, Georgia; David (Sandra) Carter III, Marietta, Georgia; Minister Patricia Tookes, Norfolk, Virginia; beloved daughters and sons-in-law Beverly J. (Gary Sr.) Coe, Huber Heights, Ohio, Sylvia Moffett, Albany, Georgia; Davine Watson, Warner Robins, Georgia; Dianne Carter, Fairburn, Georgia; Dolores (Wayne) Lewis, Marietta, Georgia; five granddaughters, Shalanda (Darian) Wilder, San Diego, California; Medina (David) Brent, Norfolk, Virginia, Erica Tookes, Norfolk, Virginia; Jessica Tookes, Duluth, Georgia; Jade Holly Tookes, Duluth, Georgia; five grandsons, Edward J. Tookes II, Norfolk, Virginia; Christian (Ashley) Tookes, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Ashton (Regina) Tookes, Gainesville, Florida; Gary Coe Jr., Tokyo, Japan; Daniel Coe, Huber Heights, Ohio; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Albert (Julie) Tookes, Montezuma, Georgia, brothers-in-law: Nathaniel (Elizabeth) English; Alfred (Aldyne) English both of Andersonville, Georgia; Elder Van (Doris English) Snead, Orange Park, Florida; Walter (Artie English) Schofield, Jacksonville, Florida; sisters-in-law: Jean Tookes, Atlanta, Georgia; Bonnie Sullivan, Fort Valley, Georgia; Ruby Ludaway, Jacksonville, Florida; and Margaret English, Oglethorpe, Georgia; a lifelong friend, Lynmore James, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Walton Rumph, age 84 passed on May 5, 2017 at the Warner Robins Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the St. James C.M.E. Church, 215 Railroad Street, Marshallville, Georgia where Reverend Miracle Bass is pastor. Reverend Victory Johnson, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Willow Lake Memorial Gardens, Willow Lake Road, Fort Valley, Georgia.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Walton Rumph was born on October 6, 1932 in Marshallville, Georgia to the late John Thomas Walton Sr., and Ora Mae Hooten Walton.   She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Walton Jr., Willie James Walton Sr., and Jimmy Walton.  She was educated in the public school system of Macon County where she graduated. While attending school she was avid basketball and baseball player.  At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the band of Christian Believer at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Marshallville, Georgia.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Jimmie Lee Rumph and to this union two children were born. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and caring for her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Johnnie  Louise Jones, Willie Mae Respress (Willie James), and Robbie Robinson whom she reared as her own all of Marshallville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; Jeffery Respress (Brandi), Ereiner Ellison, JaNice Respress, Dwayne Respress, Shiobhan Jones, Christopher Jones, Tamessia Robinson, and Dinetta Raines; twenty-one great grandchildren; fourteen siblings, Robert Lee Walton (Jimmie Lee), Fort Valley, Georgia, Rosetta Anderson, Tarrytown, New York, Connie Lane, Marshallville, Georgia, Edith Rumph, Hinesville, Georgia, Charlie Walton, Tarrytown, New York, Mary Lizze Warren (Albert), Fort Valley, Georgia, Georgia Mae Johnson and Billy Jackson (Ruthie Mae) both of Warner Robins, Georgia, Hattie Harris (Richie), Perry, Georgia, Buster Jackson (Catherine) and Charles Walton both of Marshallville, Georgia, Robert Jackson, Willie Lee Walton (Alma) and John Lee Walton (Rhonda) all of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including Annie Ruth Rumph, Grace Pastor, and  the Mt. Morris Lewis Brown, Sr., better known as “Slim,” passed Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Macon Medical Center, Macon, Georgia.  

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, White Water Road, Ideal, Georgia, where Reverend David Thomas is pastor.  Reverend Rodney Duncan, pastor of Hopewell Independent Church will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Oglethorpe, Georgia.
 
Morris Lewis Brown, Sr. was born October 16, 1974 in Reynolds, Taylor County, Georgia to M. L. Ellis and the late Zera Mae Brown Ellis.  He was educated in the public school system of Fulton County where he was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School of Atlanta, Georgia.  He was employed as a forklift driver with Blue Bird Body Company of Ft. Valley, Georgia.  He was the beloved son of the late Zera Mae Brown Ellis; the maternal grandson of the late Bobbie and Eugene Ivory and Willie James Town; the paternal grandson of the late Marie Ellis Meadows and the late Brown Turner, Jr.
 
Survivors are his beloved father, M. L. Ellis, Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Shantel Brown (her fiance, Willie Griffin), Oglethorpe, Georgia; his six children, Satajah Whitehead, Ellaville, Georgia, Morrisha Brown, McDonough, Georgia, Morris Brown, Jr., McDonough, Georgia, Akiyah Brown, Montezuma, Georgia, Unique Hudson, Ft. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Big Bethel Baptist Church, 1330 North Jackson Street, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Ashby Street, Americus, Georgia. 

Emma Williams was born June 9, 1936 in Americus, Georgia to the late Marie McCray and John Brown. She was reared by her beloved paternal aunt, the late Irene Brown, and her family. She was educated in the Sumter County public school system where she graduated from the historic Staley High School, Americus, Georgia. She later went on to receive her certification as a paraprofessional.  She worked as a Paraprofessional at Northeast Elementary and Central Jr. High Schools in Americus, Georgia until she retired. Following retirement she became a caregiver for the late Ethel Mae Jones Banks whom she loved like a mother.  She also was a caregiver for many elders in Sumter County either in their homes or at Sumter Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Big Bethel Baptist Church of Americus, Georgia.  She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Samuel Williams Sr. and to this union they were blessed with five sons. One son, Joel Williams, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, George Turner.   

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Alvin B. Williams, Samuel Williams Jr. (Jacqueline), Stacey Williams, all of Americus, Georgia, Pastor Eric Williams (Gigi) Life More Abundantly Island Church in Wahiawa, Hawaii; 8 grandchildren; three siblings, Jeanette Jenkins, Columbia, Maryland, John M. Jenkins, Hinesville, Georgia, Elaine Brown, Savannah, Georgia; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
