
Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 29, 2025, at First Salem Baptist Church, 191 Twin Churches Road, Montezuma, Georgia. Burial will follow at the Willow Lake Cemetery, Willow Lake Road, Fort Valley, Georgia.
Graveside services, including burials, are likely to be held on ground that is uneven, which is out of the control of Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. We ask that you take this into consideration when choosing footwear, such a high, thin heels. Please be advised that Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc. will not be held responsible for injuries at a grave site because of this.
Clara was born March 12, 1937, in Marshallville, Macon County, Georgia to the late Gertrude and Henry Mack Lane, Sr. She was educated in the public school system of Macon County. For many years of her adult life, she lived in California, Ohio, and New York. After returning to Macon County, Georgia, she worked thirty years before retiring from the Peach County School System in Fort Valley, Georgia. After retiring, you would either catch her reading, baking and trying new recipes, scrapbooking, and watching Westerns.
Clara’s relationship with Christ began at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Marshallville, Georgia where she served dutifully as an usher for many years. Once her health began to fail, she made First Salem Baptist Church in Montezuma, Georgia her church home.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings, Ethel Mae Slappey, Elijah Lane, Henry Mack, Jr., Christine Walker, Rebecca Shackleford, Johnny Joe Lane, Annie Willie Harris, William Lane, Mary Lou Williams, and Henry Lee Lane.
She is survived by her family which includes two daughters, Denise Gallman (Ricky), Clinton, Maryland and Shari Rogers (Jeffery), Montezuma, Georgia; two granddaughters, Alicia Bennett (Clarence), Evans, Georgia and Kimberly Rogers-Alford (Roger), Marietta, Georgia; six great-grandchildren, Roderick “Trey” Curd, III, Jeffery Curd, Jackson Curd, Chase Ransom, Reagan Alford, and Chandler Alford; sister-in-law, Connie Lane, Marshallville, Georgia; devoted cousins, Barbara Robinson and Melvin Jones; and devoted nieces and nephews, Ret. CMF James Walker, Jr. (Rita), Quindera Lightfoot, Olivia Ann Nelson, Kay Frances Isaiah, and Annie Ruth McLane. Clara was blessed to have several godchildren and grandchildren including Contina Lowe, Gail Spikes, Nickolas Spikes, Marsha Jefferson, Kyla Rogers, Deonski Rogers, Willette Smith, Jarrhet Canady, Jeremy Canady, and Joey Haugabook. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Traditions Health & Staff; and the First Salem Baptist Church family.
