The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel, Inc., 607 Kaigler Street, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Antioch/McDonald Cemetery, McDonald Road, Oglethorpe, Georgia. Rev. Allen Hudson will officiate.
Charlie better known as “Mippy” was born October 15, 1945 in Oglethorpe, Macon County, Georgia to the late Willie Bell Hudson and Willie James Melvin. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County where he received his elementary education from the historic Oglethorpe Grammar School and his high school education from the historic D. F. Douglass High School. After high school, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he work with Mead Company for several years. Later he moved Greenboro, North Carolina; there he met and married Sandra Melvin. In 2011 he moved back to his native land and lived with his daughter, Melvyna.
He leave to cherish his memories his beloved children which include Melvyna (Julius Jordan) Curgil (his caregivers), Montezuma, Georgia, Tammy Melvin, Greenboro, North Carolina, Charles Melvin, Greenboro, North Carolina: ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one brother, John (Delois) Melvin, Lithonia, Georgia; sister-in-law, Nettie Melvin, Montezuma, Georgia; three aunts, Lula Pearl Hudson, Oglethorpe, Georgia, Dorothy Haynes, Ellaville, Georgia and Catherine Melvin, Andersonville, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and a host of beloved cousins and friends.
